Sounds Like
Trees wiff no leaves on 'em in autumn. It might also sound like the music of Anthesiac when you are hearing it - depends, really...
Anthesiac
Eschewing modern notions of where alternative music is going anthesiac seek to forge a new path into unknown still waters. Anthesiac formed in 2001 with members Josh Braden on guitar/vocals, Arno Lyng ..boards, Louise Butcher on bass, and Chris Self on drums. They made the national final of rockquest, picking up awards for best vocals and best original song along the way. In 2003, with the departure of Butcher, Lyng took over on bass and they entered the RDU Round Up band competition in Christchurch, placing second equal in the finals.
In 2004, with help from creative communities funding, they were able to record and release the 10-track debut album "In the Queue". Playing shows from everything between established venues to trashy flat drink ups; the band created a small but loyal following. Due to the parting of Lyng in early 2005, it was time to find a deeper musical route (lots of jamming and experimentation). Having known and jammed with Sam for sometime and finding there to be similar music tastes between him and the rest of the group, it seemed only natural that he became part of the group. Sam Hood added a whole new element of explosive energy to the band, which has been aided by use of certain effects devices.
The band as is have all grown up around music, taking the fruit from the likes of Radiohead, HDU, Jakob, Mogwai, Pink Floyd King Crimson and Sigur Ros and mixing it up in a big boiling melting pot (the band room). The sound of the music has matured with time (like the fine cheese, or wine if you will...) and is looking to record the already existing new material, as well as write much more in order to get an EP together. Then hopefully there shall be a full length second album.
