"Art is the means by which we communicate what it feels like to be alive." --Antony Gormley.
“The surest defense against Evil is extreme individualism, originality of thinking, whimsicality, even / if you will / eccentricity. That is, something that can't be feigned, faked, imitated; something even a seasoned imposter couldn't be happy with.” --Joseph Brodsky
My work is an attempt to document the human condition by means of the ever-changing processes of visual art. It is influenced by politics, philosophy, religion, science, popular culture, and personal experience, both familial and sexual.
I produce works that engage in dialogue between the historical iconography of art and my own evolving consciousness. My work is truly a multimedia art, involving many mediums including sculpture, photography, and painting. Often processes and imagery will overlap, making this diary-like art complex and visually captivating. Much of this work is photographed and displayed on a comprehensive website with hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
In the world of Process art, the means justify the end. The artist typically sets an event in motion and watches it unfold, prioritizing the making of art over the final results. The products or residue of the process holds only the meaning imbued through its creation.
I am currently completing a series of drawings, collages, paintings, and sculptures that retell the experience of moving into the French Quarter for a yearlong residency. These projects are open-ended and will develop with time.
Visit my website at AnthonyCarriere.com for much more art , descriptive stories about the work, and my blog.
Who I'd like to meet:
Art is embedded in our experiences. Artists suggest new relationships between these experiences.
Video documentation of a performance piece by my friend Nate Kassel who rode around on his bike slapping high-fives to people who were trying to hail taxi cabs in NYC. Enjoy!
