ANTHONY D'AMATO doesn’t waste time. At twenty-one years old, the singer/songwriter has already released two albums and performed around the East Coast, both as a headliner and as the special guest of artists like Canadian star Sam Roberts, Nina Persson (of The Cardigans), Jesse Malin, Marah, Willie Nile, and HYMNS. In 2009, he was selected for a showcase slot at the New Jersey Folk Festival and nominated for Top Album at the 17th annual Asbury Music Awards. His music has been featured on a number radio stations, including New York's WRXP (101.9) which will be broadcasting a live in-studio session this fall.
D'Amato self-released his latest album, ‘Shades of the Prison House,’ in July, and it's quickly drawn comparisons to songwriters from Conor Oberst to Tim Buckley. The album was recorded in a dorm room, with D'Amato playing acoustic/electric/steel guitars, bass, keyboards, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and accordion in addition to handling vocal duties and producing the whole thing. Fiddler Brittany Haas of the innovative folk band Crooked Still guests on “Skeleton Key” and “Hank Williams Tune.”
D'Amato grew up in New Jersey. He is currently still growing up.
ello, i was actually listening to rich russo on rxp a few hours ago and i heard your one song, i think the name of it is california girls ain't so great, lol. it's so awesomely good. do you write all your songs yourself?
I originally heard you through Recycled Love Songs and I heard the song "Skeleton Key." While listening I thought that the lyrics were brilliant and the music to accompany it was beautiful. I then went to where it said "read about this song." While I was reading I saw the part where you said " But what you come to realize is that if you beat yourself up enough, you’ll reach a point where you can look in the mirror and not even recognize that reflection. And that’s far worse than anything that might have led to it." I could relate to what you had said because many times in life I had beat myself up over everything that went wrong. I'm going to pick up your CD as soon as I can. Keep playing amazing music.
