Classically trained at the piano, anthony giambrone is a powerful vocalist and a talented songwriter inspired by beauty and screaming for change. His ability to blend classical, blues, and rock piano styles and combine them with edgy lyrics and vocals make for a truly intense musical experience.
anthony fronted various rock bands in the Toronto area in the late 90s but decided to go solo in 2000 when he had amassed a huge repertoire of solid and powerful piano written rock songs. Various live shows as a solo act ensued and the overwhelming positive response to his performances led to his first solo recording in 2001 - a six song EP called 6 Planets.
To support the EP, anthony continued to play a flurry of live shows throughout Toronto and area with the support of his band The Flat Planets. He earned commendable success between 2001 and 2004, garnering campus radio play, local television attention, selling out numerous shows, releasing a live CD, participating in various festivals, and even winning a singer/songwriter competition.
While anthony had put his solo work on a back burner between 2004 and 2007 in order to foster the collective band effort of The Flat Planets, he continued to write on the piano, further developing his work as a singer and songwriter.
"no need to go so fast", anthony's latest solo release, is a culmination of his most recent songwriting - a throwback to the piano and vocals as the central foci of his music. Working with Toronto producer/engineer Dan Kircher, anthony was able to put together a collection of songs that are beautiful and playful, yet somehow raw and indignant.
Catch him at Zemra Lounge in Toronto on the first Friday of every month, starting in February, 2009.
