After spending the better part of a year lamenting the demise of their old band, Starla Dear, Lulu and Acadia picked themselves up by their guitar straps and decided to start something different, something that encapsulated everything they loved about rock and roll- the big guitars, catchy hooks,
sing-along choruses, and the energy they lacked in their past incarnation. If The Antisocialites could play in their dream band it would be a punk-rock Beach Boys cover band. So this is how The Antisocialites started, as a fulfillment of that dream. Realizing that they could not just play Beach Boys covers (or all punk rock), the girls set out to write new songs, dust off old guitars, take voice lessons, find new band mates, and create a band for music's sake.
The girls started to play with guitarist Joey, realizing after the fact that they shared a very influential rock n roll-model, Kay Hanley. In a weird internet karma twist of fate, Acadia and Lulus longtime friend Randy responded to their advertisement for a drummer. With the line-up complete the band started practicing ferociously. What you hear on their 3-song demo is the sound of rock worlds colliding. From Lulu, the powerful rock influence of Mudhoney and the Supersuckers; from Acadia, the pop sensibility of Juliana Hatfield and the Old 97s; from Joey, the guitar hooks of the Dandy Warhols and the Smashing Pumpkins; and from Randy, the blah blah of blady and bladiblah. Continuing to rock and roll by their mission statement no scenester bullshit, The Antisocialites write and perform straight rock songs with thoughtful lyrics and powerful music. As young veterans of the Boston and Worcester rock scenes they come to the table saying, f**k it, lets make music that we would want to listen to.
