His mother was best friends with Tina Tuner and his father managed Ike and Tina in their early days. Antoine's uncle is the famed trombonist, Fred Wesley of James Brown and the JB's. One of Antoine's earliest musical influences was his brother Kenny Johnson, aka DJ Special K (The Original) , who spun hip hop "back in the day" on KDAY radio in Los Angeles. Antoine learned how to play 5 instruments while attending Jr. High and High School and was a member of the orchestra, marching band and jazz band. In the 80's Antoine briefly picked up spinning vinyl, but eventually his ear turned friendly to Punk Rock and he joined a band called the Potato Farmers From Hell. In the early 90's Antoine turned off his amp and picked up an acoustic guitar and formed a coffee house folk duo called SoulFolk. In 1995 Antoine's roommate introduced him to her boyfriend; a person who would change the direction of Antoine's musical ambitions, DJ Daniel Chavez. A co-founder of the world famous MoonTribe Collective, Daniel Chavez taught Antoine the basics of dance music production. Since then Byron has produced over 300 songs in just about every genre, from folk, down tempo to techno and his music has been featured in film and television. Beyond the obvious soul, funk and gospel influences from Antoine's past, the music of Antoine Wesley, being a child of the 70's and a 80's teenager, reflects his eclectic musical influences: The Dead Kennedy's, Run-DMC, Kraft Werk, The Art of Noise, Prince, Michael Jackson, The Orb, U2, The Smiths, Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, Kate Bush, Orbital , Beat Meat Manifesto and The Police to name a few. Today Antoine Wesley is in the Studio working on an EP for VibeTribe Productions. His music is soulful, rhythmic and colorful. Working with Logic and Ableton Live, Antoine uses his voice along with analog instruments to create a dance version of his SoulFolk music. If you like Deep, Tech and straight up House, then you will like Antoine Wesley. He is also one half of Studio City featuring DJ/Producer Kyle Hendricks. Together their music is a pounding tribute to modern day dance music.
