Music, Music and more music, Is there anything else to life? Oh yeah, Marvel comics.....nearly forgot that one.
Music
Well, as you can tell, I do like a good bit of AOR.Bands like Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, FM, Boston and many others all float my boat. I also like a good bit of Pomp Rock! Stuff like Zon, Trillion, Big Horn, Rose, Treasure, Red Dawn, Mirror, Angel and White Sister (the kings!)are all high on my faves list. I also have a soft spot for glam bands. Stuff like Doll, St Valentine, the Crue, Wrathchild (hey, I was a fully paid up member of the Wrath Army), Kiss, Ruby Slippers, Castle Blak, Robin 'Fuckin" Black, Wig Wam, Pretty Boy Floyd, the Sweet, Poison, Twisted Sister and Mott The Hoople all get Max Factor thumbs up from me. And let's not forget some Westcoast AOR. Stuff like L.A Cowboys, Maxus, Jay Graydon, Toto, Airplay and Ambrosia are all bona-fide classics.
Movies
Stuff like Almost Famous (The ultimate rock movie?),the Rocky films, School Of Rock, Detroit Rock City, Sin City, Lord Of The Rings and Bill And Ted, are some of my favourites.
Television
Give me an episode of Heroes, Shameless, Skins or Desperate Housewives and you will have my complete, undivided attention.
Books
I'm not actually a big book reader. But stuff like The Dirt or any reference books will get my attention. I am currently reading "Life In The Bus Lane" by Tony Bell. He's a one time guitarist for the likes of obscure AOR bands like Circus and AOK. This is his story, and it's a bloody riot. You can get it from Amazon. If you were into the UK AOR scene in the late eighties/early nineties, then this is the book for you.
Heroes
My daughter (Beth), plus the likes of Kiss, Ozzy, Stevie Nicks and the Scarlet Witch. Journalistic heroes? Well, the aforementioned Derek Oliver (the Pimp Of Wimp)and Kelv would have to be top of the list. As would Geoff Barton and Dave Reynolds. However, a tip of the hat would have to go to Barrie Kirtley, Mark Ashton, Bruce Mee and Magnus Sonderqwist, Sondervist...fuckit, Magnus Soderpop, LOL!For being at the forefront of the underground AOR scene, and Inspiring me to buy so many bloody albums!!

Hello, one and all! Welcome to the Myspace page for Powerplay Magazine's AOR Underground column. The column is monthly, and has been in existence for over six years and is one of the longest running columns in the UK. Built on the foundations laid by Derek Olivers mighty Wimpwire column and, to a lesser extent, Kelv Helrazers, equally Impressive, Raze Hell, AOR Underground endeavours to bring you the very best in AOR, Melodic Rock, Glam and Pomp. So what can you expect on Myspace? Well, I aim to do a bi-weekly/monthly blog that will give you an update on the column, its contents/details etc, plus I'll probably give you some archive Interviews that I've done over the years. There will probably be the odd new Interview (primarily for new, lesser known bands) and anything else I can get my hands on that is to do with AOR. Any bands out there that want to be featured in this column, then get in touch via this site. Any other bands that don't fit the remit of this column, then get in touch with Powerplay at www.powerplaymagazine.co.uk. That's all for now, be sure to subscribe to the blog, check back here on a regular basis and leave plenty of comments - good, or bad. Cheers, Rob Evans
Who I'd like to meet: Well, I've been in the privileged position of being able to meet an awful lot of bands over the years. People such as David Coverdale, Journey, Styx, Ronnie Dio, Danny Vaughn, Wig Wam, Toto, Mitch Malloy, Legs Diamond, Greg Guiffria, Pat Benatar, Stan Bush, Steve Overland, Kevin Chalfant, REO Speedwagon, House Of Lords, Vixen, Shy, Romeos Daughter, Danny Danzi, Johnny Lima, Hugo, Glen Burtnik,Dante Fox and Ten, amongst many others, have all been charming, and an absolute pleasure to work with.
But, I must admit that there are still some people on that old Evans "Hit List" that I would love to meet. For starters, Paul Stanley (although, having spent a really laboured half hour with him on the phone, I'm not to sure about this one anymore), Dave Lee Roth (if you could shut him up, you might be able to say Hi!), Donnie Iris (The ultimate in Geek Chic) and Stevie Nicks. I'm sure there are many others, but these will suffice for now. Anyway here's a few AOR videos for your delectation. Starting with the Marvellous Franke & The Knockouts
Lionheart. Great band, shit video.
Romeo's Daughter. Somebody get me a cold shower and quick!
Device and the bloody wonderful Holly Knight
New England. Pomp it up!
What can you say about 707?
Here's one for you obscurists out there - Garrison!!
