“Absence of the Sun, a Portland based metal quintet was noticeably younger than other local acts. With a harsh metal sound they charismatically pumped the crowd up."
The Portland Press Herald on the Colisee arena show
“Every 12 year old with Garageband and the internet sounds like Necrophagist. This, thankfully, is not one of those bands."

Now a desolate area for metal bands, was once thriving.
At the beginning of the Maine metal scene, Absence of the Sun was there.
The band quickly made an impression on all metal fans that heard them, standing out due to their young age and blistering melodic, catchy, and deathly metal riffs. Now 3 years later, after two musical departures and creative changes, the band sees itself standing as one of the few remaining bands from the early metal scene influencing a new generation of shredding metal bands.
The band has begun departing Maine in attempts to seek national recognition. Beginning with their second cross country tour in February of '08.
"Absence of the Sun will never forget where they came from. And they will continue to evolve their sound and widen their ears until they evolve into one of the fastest, melodic, catchy, and heaviest bands to invade your ear drums and leave you remembering who they are".
