How long have you been singing and playing guitar?
I consciously started singing in 2004, and I’ve been playing guitar since summer of 2007.
Did you take lessons?
I tried out some vocal lessons a couple of years ago, during the summer; they didn’t seem to help out too much, so I stopped. I haven't taken guitar lessons.
How did you learn to sing?
Truthfully, participating in online forums for singing. A few years ago, I began to share my singing at various music communities, such as Soompi and Soundclick. Through this, I was able to gain a great deal of valuable feedback and experience, and try different styles and languages. I also learned how to listen carefully to other amateur singers and hear what they were doing right that I wasn’t, and this helped me keep striving to improve. I also participated in some online singing contests. For the actual singing part, I used to mostly practice in my room when people were out of the house :) But lately I’ve become a little less shy about singing in front of people. It's also fun singing with friends!
How long have you been learning Japanese?/Are you Japanese?
I was born in China, but grew up and lived in the US for most of my life. I’ve been studying Japanese since around the same time I seriously started to sing. Only lately have I been able to actively start speaking and writing lyrics in Japanese though. It’s still not easy, but I’m learning each day.
How did you get the names “Fantasiimaker” and “aozorafantasii”?
“Fantasiimaker” was something I made up in middle school; I must’ve been really into the art and music of Final Fantasy, haha. Being somewhat a dreamer, I also liked the idea of a creator of fantasies. “Aozora” means “blue sky” in Japanese. I love the sky :)
