Ape Foot Groove was conceived in Syracuse, New York. They are a funky, jazzy, bluesy. jamming band with influences such as Medeski, Martin and Wood, Galactic, The Meters, and Sly and the Family Stone. They were formed in 1992 by Carl Wetter, Kevin Payne, Former guitarist Kevin Donohue and former Bassist Melissa Riggall. They were originally called Funk Ugly. Jason Simons replaced bassist Melissa Riggall in 1993. The bands name was changed shortly thereafter. They released "Planet of the Ape Foot Groove" in 1994 and "Madman" in 1995. They were nominated for a S.A.M.M.Y.(Syracuse's version of the Grammy's) for best college band in 1994. They moved to North Carolina in 1996 and toured the east coast extensively making stops at the Lions Den and C.B.G.B. in New York city and The Middle East in Philadelphia. From South Carolina to Cape Cod, Ape Foot Groove brought the funk to their fans. They are well known for having guest musicians and have featured horns, keyboards, percussionists, dj's and rappers. While in New York they recorded with rap artists at Syracuse University. Ape Foot Groove has appeared on several college radio and television shows. They released their critically acclaimed c.d. "Hung Like A Monkey" in 1997. Guitarist Kevin Donohue left the band in 2000. Lance Ashley has been a great addition on keyboard.

Keep on Working reminds me of some goodies but oldies. Any chance your fans can get some of the old recordings like Grandfather and Traveller on this site? Back to The Roots of the Ape Foot Groove. ;-) I gotta make it up to NC sometime for show. Keep it Funky!
When are y'all playing down towards the ATL? It's been about a decade since We've seen you play. OK now I feel old. Going through AFG withdrawals. Madman Tape worn out and fell through a crack somewhere. Need that funky music.
