Bio
Originally formed in 2007 as a three piece, Aphelion are now a five piece that call Adelaide their home town. Aphelion combine their love of deep rhythmic tribal beats, with unique warm vocal melodies, the rich full sound of the twelve string guitar, haunting keys, and the heart wrenching beauty of the violin to deliver something engaging, soulful and captivating. Aphelion could be rather loosely described as belonging to the world music genre, but they do not really fit anywhere, as they gleefully rampage across acoustic, folk, jazz and metal, with a broad range of styles as diverse as The Tea Party is to Opeth. With song titles such as Grenade in Mouth Pin in Hand, Greetings from the Dalai Lama, and The End of the End, audiences are left musing as they attempt to decipher cryptic lyrics. .. Aphelion's front man Tony Rawcliffe serenades the twelve string in raw style, singing with soft intensity one minute and belting out grungy vocals the next. Adrian Rohozinski showcases extraordinary violinistic antics, Aaron Farrant keeps the beat pumping with distinctive percussion styles on Djembe and drums, new addition Tom Byrne brings a low register complexity on bass, and Erica Thomas fills out the sound with phat synth rhythm and piano accents. .. Aphelion have been entrancing their ever growing audiences all over Adelaide for the past 3 years, performing at venues as diverse as their music. With a driving emphasis on evolving, Aphelion are currently focussed on creating a strong local support and plan to release their second recording with their new member line up this year. -
