The group came together after all five members, who were strangers at the time, happened to collide with eachother at a busy intersection, resulting in a five car fender bender, in which all five motorists did not have insurance, therefore the judge ruled that all five motorists would be ordered by the court to form a band and play until all fines, medical bills, towing costs, etc... could be repaid in full. After trying unsuccessfully to create revenue as a glam band in the 80's the five young upstarts were incarcerated for nearly two decades. They were released in late 2003, but were all required to wear low jacks on their ankles as part of their early release agreement. By this time almost all of the members had reached their mid 20's and knew that if they were ever going to make the band work, they had to act fast, before their window of youthful fortune turned into an abyss of progressive indie rock doom. Within the first two months of forming the band, which at this point had assumed the name "Aphid" after discarding their fomer moniker "Nicki Sparkle and the Diamond Boys", recorded a two song demo and began to get gigs at co-op parties, 6'th street clubs, masonic orgies, and Terrence Malic's birthday party. Aphid's 2004 debut ep, titled "Better Days" is available through their website, shows, and at Waterloo Records on 6'th and Lamar in Austin. They have all become ordained ministers and started a tax exempt fellowship of compassionate promise keepers who try to elighten others with teachings of how to buy their music and go to their shows.
