SYMN (SUPPORT YOUNG MUSICIANS NETWORK) MANIFESTO
As I slowly start to become involved with music (apart from listening) again, I would like to start a project I named SYMN (Support Young Musicians Network) in the spirit of the legendary John Peel.
Purpose of this Project will be as its title says the support of young musicians and their work.
When I say support I mean support in promoting their work around by different means (Sorry Guys, I am not that rich to support you financially)
This Project will be based on voluntary work from me and other people participating in it and without financial profit for none of us.
This is made only because of the love for the music that we have.
This is the Element that unites us all.
For me there exists no separation such as "good" or "bad" music.
Is "good music" defined if you can play your instrument excellent and can sing without false notes?
Then you have learned nothing from the punk revolution.
Is "good" music defined according to your personal taste ?
Then it is time to get adult, you are not in the adolescence anymore.
As long as the music that someone makes can touch people, move them and get them sing or dance or simply listen with pleasure to it, then that person is making "good" music.
We all live in our microkosmos where we want to be successful, get rich or famous BUT if we escape from the isolation of our tiny islands and make something that will help other people, maybe we will feel on the long run happy about it.
I will be happy if this small project that has started in my hometown Thessaloniki finds imitators elsewhere and SYMN Cells begin to grow in Lisboa, Prag, Austin, Tokyo, Melbourne and other places in this globe.
I will be happy if hundreds of bands and musicians can be heard, play live and get the recognition from the audience that they deserve.
I will be happy if a band from San Diego collaborates with a band from Thessaloniki and produces something new.
I will be happy if an artist who has already reached a certain recognition makes a project with an unknown artist.
Music has given us so much in our lives so far, it is time to pay it back and what's better than supporting Young Talented Musicians!
As you may have noticed, I have a regular job that has nothing to do with music and 2 kids that I grow up alone, so don't expect miracles.
I will try to persuade different people (journalists, radio producers, record store owners, djs, etc) to participate in it, this can only work that way.
So join the network!
I am waiting for your ideas/comments also!
I created a group called SYMN, everyone interested can join it by clicking the logo "SYMN" under my General Interests.
