Well, I had a really good con this year. I enjoyed some good panel discussions, was a panelist for the first time, got some cool art at the art show, and saw plenty folks I enjoy running into every year (and a couple I don’t).

A few of my highlights;
Probably the biggest deal for me personally was the “Starbase Houston Trivia Challenge” on Saturday afternoon. Everyone in our club worked hard on our little “game show” and I think it went pretty well for our first try. We hope to present it again in 2009. I put together the questions and pulled the duty as MC for the game and giving out the awards at the show Saturday night, while I’m not afraid of public speaking, I don’t make a habit of it, so I hope I did OK.

I sat in on a few panels I really liked, but I think I got the most out of the ‘Steampunk’ discussion, I was pretty unaware of the extent of steampunk in literature, but now I have a list of books to check out! I also enjoyed the panels on Doc Savage, Frell and Frak, Archetypes in SF, the Texas Ren Fest Q&A (thanks again to the pretty redheaded girl that gave me a free pass), the always crazy Yard Dog roadshow, and a fun kaffeeklatsch with Selina Rosen. As usual, there were more panels than time for me, but there’s always next year! Not a panel, but let me say how much I liked the Consuite this year, I know the availability of more substantial , even hot, food was a hit with a lot of folks this year.

The show Saturday night was very entertaining this year thanks in no small part to my friends, the best dressed couple in fandom, Kathy and Derly as MC’s. I think everyone really enjoyed the pre-show band, the Skip Thruster show, and all the great costumes. But the big news for ApolloCon this year seemed to be the Dance after the show Saturday.
