Influences
Iron Maiden, System of a Down, Death, Dream Theater, Sound Garden, Nightwish, Melissa Auf der Maur just to name a few. We all have varied tastes in music that when brought together creates music that is different yet complimentary.
The journey of Apophenia began at Our Lady of Mount Carmel S.S. where Jamie Hamilton and Matthew Attard met in concert band practice and decided to put together a band of their own. Due to musical differences, the original band decided to go their separate ways; however, Jamie and Matt felt they had a strong musical connection and decided to stay together as musical partners. Matthew’s cousin, Robert, was in the process of looking for other musicians, who shared his passion for song writing, who like to be challenged by different musical facets, and who love heavy metal. He found that in Matthew and Jamie. The three got together and began learning cover songs and writing their own material. The musicians had a unique writing style that was not only metal but that fused elements of jazz, classical, and alternative rock. With a few songs under their belts, the band set out to find a singer that would complement and showcase their unique style of music. While visiting a friend at a music school, Robert met vocal instructor, Courtenay Benoit and invited her to audition for the vocal position. After playing a song together they were all amazed at how well they clicked and how complete the sound was. They went through different band names until they stumbled upon “Apophenia” which means to see patterns and sequences were none exist. They thought this best described their music because of the unique style, the many time changes, and the progressive melodies.
The band stuck to a rigorous practice schedule and within a month they had their first gig. The gig was a local battle of the bands at a tiny bar in Toronto. As Apophenia watched the other bands play, they thought for sure the audience would not appreciate their sound because of the musical styles of the other bands and way the crowd responded to them. As they walked up to the stage to set up, a heckler shouted, “Chicks in a metal band, yeah right!” With that comment, Apophenia tuned up, played their set, and blew the crowd away. At the end of the night, the winner was announced – Apophenia! The band went home that night with first place, confidence, and a new, positive outlook on their musical career.
Apophenia continued playing gigs in Brampton, Mississauga, Toronto, Oshawa, and Pickering, and also took some time to record a three song demo. They were overwhelmed with the amount of positive feedback they were receiving and that they had a loyal, growing fan base. The band liked the sound they had but felt it was lacking something. Rob suggested they try out one of his guitar students, Kevin. The sound of a second guitarist added more depth to the band’s music and audiences noticed and appreciated this. Unfortunately, Kevin’s schedule wasn’t flexible enough to fit Apophenia in and he needed to concentrate on his schooling; Kevin decided it would be best if he left the band. Apophenia understood and soon set out to find a replacement. Rob thought his younger sister, Susan, could be a good addition to the band, and that keyboards would complement Apophenia’s music greatly. Susan was able to learn the songs at an accelerated rate and was immediately hired for the keyboard position.
Apophenia’s journey unfolds much like their first show as they continue learning tricks of the music trade, meeting new people, having fun, and growing as individuals and as an intense, thriving musical powerhouse.

if you are interested, message me back and i'll try and find a way for you guys to get them
OH SNAP CRACKLE AND POP! you guys are full of surprises! i just recently listened to all the newly modified tunes with the Keys ghosted in the recordings They sound more interesting with more feeling and emotion to the songs. But i have to be brutally honest on Grand Designs the Keys blocks the Guitars a little too much for my liking the guitar strumming on that song gets to me but heys its only my opinion either way good stuff!! KEEP ON PROGING GUYS!
I see you deleted the songs and uploaded them back to see how many plays people listen in a different order why? oh well you know what you are doing ill try to make it to your next show provided valuable info from you guys..
