Sarah McLachlan, Peter Mulvey, Tori Amos, The Ditty Bops, Jeff Buckley, Tool, Ani DiFranco, Dar Williams, Sleater Kinney, (early) Liz Phair, The Decemberists, PJ Harvey, Brandi Carlisle, Dead Can Dance.
Sounds Like
Music.
(put Sarah McLachlan in Thunderdome with Jeff Buckley, have Tool referee, let Dead Can Dance be the spiritual supervisors, offer Ani DiFranco and Brandi Carlisle as weapons, and then give PJ Harvey making out with The Decemberists as the grand prize--then maybe we're close to describing our sound? You should probably throw some dirt, alcohol and pixie dust into the mix, too)
Aporia is the energetic, acoustic-rock trio of Emily Mills (vocals/percussion), Justin Woodward (guitar/vocals), and Morey Burnard (bass/vocals). No one seems to know exactly how to categorize their music, not even the band, but some imaginative attempts include "acid folk," "soulful acoustic rock," and "alt. country blues rock." Take yer pick--they probably fit these and more on any given night.
The band writes and plays a large list of their own original songs (their third full-length studio album is due to be released Oct. 2008) with fairly equal participation from each member. Collective writing, even...commies! the lot of 'em!
We're playing with Awesome Car Funmaker at their last show EVER! Let's make it a good one! 2/13 @ UW Memorial Union Rathskellar. Free Show. 9 PM to Midnight.
