Clapham 2007. Three friends are smoking outside a pub, awaiting the doors of the Clapham Grand to open. Gazing up at the huge sign, they begin to talk wildly about the dreams that they have shared for the last 5 years. “Tell you what boys, give it six months, and we’ll play this place, I’m tellin ya!”
No one would have believed it then, but within six month’s they did exactly what they dreamt about, and in the year to follow, so much more…
Applescruffs are a 4 piece indie / rock band from Woking, Surrey.
Formed in late 2007, the original line up was handpicked by music promotion company feedme music, to play the Brixton Mass as part of an unsigned showcase. The gig was a success, and future dates came through the door. Clapham Grand was the next offering, which again went down well with the crowd and the promoters. Ears started to open, and the headline slot a month later at the Grand sealed the fact that this band was capable of bigger and better gigs.
With gigs at London Astoria, Halfmoon Putney, 100 Club to name a few, the Applescruffs have started to make a name for themselves, and are determined to make 2009 the year to take them to the next level.
The bands first demo was recorded at Sticky Studios, Windlesham – with Jake Gosling (Amy Winehouse, Wiley) and features three tracks, ‘Lipstick and Razorblades’, ‘Way I Feel’ and ‘Lady’.
John and Nick are responsible for most of the writing and draw from a variety of influences including Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Oasis, Jet and many many more.
Top promoters Feedme music quote ‘’Applescruffs draw comparisons with the Faces at their glittering best, Applescruffs are all about having a great rock n roll time.’’
Plus recognition including "...menacing guitar lines, these earnest young men can really write a hook” – Planet Sound,
Applescruffs released one of their own songs 'Heroine' in 2007 on the 'Fresh, Weird & Wonderful' compilation through Pistol Digital, hitting no. 8 in the iTunes alternative chart and cracking the iTunes UK top 40.
The Jim Jones Revue play a special XFM 14+ show at The Barfly in Camden this Monday. The show will be recorded and broadcast on John Kennedy's XFM Xposure radio show throughout November.
