Think Scratch Perverts or the former Drunken All-Stars with a sense of humour and you’re about there.
Formed in May 2003, ATB consists of DJ’s : Mack The Knife, C Smoove, Rob Focuz, Daddy Fingaz and iDLE, plus host K.I.D. who combine in various configurations to produce an energetic DJ show covering the full spectrum of breakbeat music.
It’s certainly not a scene for the feint-hearted, and the unique live experience continues to grow as the crew approach their 5th year as residents at rave-giants Raindance as well as holding headline slots at various events up and down the country such as Epidemik, Waveform and Sunrise Festivals. The crew have also ventured as far afield as Ibiza, Miami, Poland and Lyon in recent months.
Individually the crew have their own projects, which include Rob Focuz's promotion of the long running Monday Club night at The (award winning) Horn in St Albans and they have held the fortnightly 4-6pm Sunday slot on underground radio station RAW FM for over 5 years. C Smoove and Daddy Fingaz have joined forces with household names such as Future Funk Squad, General Midi, Hardcore Beats, Born Idle and Far Too Loud on the internet based radio station iBreaks, holding the Tues 8-10pm slot rotating on a two week basis. Krafty MC won Next Generation MC at the Raveology Drum and Bass awards back in 2006 and continues to increase his threshold as a top quality MC. MC K.I.D. is well known for his ease at getting the crowd members involved in the atmosphere that leads to a top night as well as appearing on MTV Base and Channel U with Vics and Trix. iDLE is well in demand for his top rate scratching skills, so much so that he spends more time in clubs than he does at home, as well as single handedly keeping Kettle Chips and cornish pasties alive ! Catch him on NSB Radio with the Armitage Skanks crew every Tuesday from 7-9pm
The crew also produce their own tracks, the first release from Dekoy and Rob Focuz hit stores in April 2007 on Control Breaks Records. This was well received, spending the first 2 weeks of its release in the top 10 download and vinyl charts at Juno and Breakbeat Online. The follow up, Bob Hopeless came out in December on Diverted Traffic Records to more critcal acclaim you can pick it up at online music store Beatport. A third release by the pair, Colonel K, is due out soon - also on Diverted Traffic.
"Looking back, reminiscing over our humble beginnings at our Apply The Breaks and This Is Oldskool parties in our home-town of Luton so much has happened - yet our fundamental principle remains the same…" (Smoove)
Its all about creating a good vibe that takes the crowd on a journey, with the destination being full enjoyment and a totally fulfilling experience. With the use of old and spanking new tunes, sweetly placed additional vocals and the combination of the crew's two killer scratchers iDLE and Daddy Fingaz, ATB sets out to make a statement - "We love to party and we ain't leaving no-one behind !" (Fingaz)
As many have already discovered, the perfect way to get any party started is simply to Apply the Breaks
