I was influenced by a lot of entertainers that are in and outside of the hip hop genre. Some of the MCs that I admired growing up were Common, 2pac, Nas, Talib Kwaeli, Tribe Called Quest, Outkast, and Biggie. There's a lot more but not enough time to name them all here. A lot of my musical influence came from gospel music, Soul and old school R&B surprisingly. I listen to everything from Kirk Franklin to Arethra Franklin and I love Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder. I try to bring some of the same elements that they brought to music, as far as originality, as I can. I'm very eclectic so I also could name some rock stars that affect how I make music today. I listened to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Aerosmith, and even a little Nirvana from time to time and that has helped me expand my musical horizons.
Sounds Like
I have an original sound but a lot of people compare me to Common or Nas. Some people even say I sound like Eminem. I appreciate the comparison and I guess that it's all in who's listening really, but I think I just sound like Saiah. Take a listen to some of my tracks on this page and you decide. While you're at it, you can check out the new album, Who?, available here and on www.aprilfoolrecords.com!
At the age of 14, Saiah began experimenting with poetry. Soon his passion for innovative wordplay became a defining part of his life. In 1998, with the success of his first talent show under his belt, he began to put his unique rhymes to music, paving the way for what would become his driving force in life. His style reflects his diverse respect for all avenues of music, with influences from legends like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye to hip hop icons like Common Sense and Tupac. His goal is to bring good music that is not so one dimensional back to the Hip Hop arena.
Recently Saiah described his music as “a new sound for the Hip Hop genre with creative wordplay and bangin beats”. His fusion of modern music, original lyrics and broad appeal produces a complete and compelling act that has attracted attention from event organizers, DJ's, and listeners all over the world. He has performed at various clubs in Richmond, VA, his hometown, where crowds ranged from an intimate few to hundreds, as well as venues in other cities up the East Coast. Saiah opened for DJ UNK in Charleston, West Virginia and performed for hundreds at the GreekFest festival in Long Island, New York along side artists such as Lil Mama and Neyo. He has even been selected to perform in talent shows by companies from both Washington, DC and New York, including Alicia Key’s own MBK Entertainment. His debut album, EVOLUTION, was released on April 1, 2008. His sophomore album, WHO?, was released October 31, 2009 and takes another step in artistic creativity with 16 hot new tracks. Singles from his debut album, “Nobody Remix” and “Get It”, can already be heard on local radio stations in Richmond, VA, as well as made a part of the repertoire of various internet radio stations and DJ's around the world, while current singles, SAID SO and CRAZY REMIX, are making their way onto the airwaves as well. He has been interviewed for Locals Radio Only, RadioMayhem.net, SimplyRadio.net, DiamondSoundsRadio.com, Skope Magazine, and Neufutur Magazine.
Saiah’s love of music, his gregarious personality, and powerful messages are inspirations to his listeners, including other artists. The incredible diversity of his audience is a testament to all his talents, and his potential to capture the imagination and souls of the American audience. His music appeals to people from all walks of life and his positive message is one all races and cultures can relate to giving him something that will change the way that Hip Hop is viewed in the music world.
Although there is always more to be done, Saiah and April Fool Records has taken steps toward making our world a better place by starting in the community first. One of the ways that April Fool Records has given back is in the form of free concerts at charity events, food drives, and back to school rallies. April Fool Records is dedicated to continuing these efforts on a daily basis to ensure that our world is a better place tomorrow for our children and grandchildren. Not only do we plan to continue to be consistent in our efforts, we also urge each and every person to do the same, if not for you, for the future.
