Aqualash is a hauntingly beautiful breed of music from the shores of Australia. Moving through electric and acoustic domains the music is hypnotic and poetic, layers of shadow and light. They have been compared to artists including Portishead, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Lamb, Mazzy Star, Massive Attack, Imogen Heap, Julie London, Astrid Gilberto, Garbage, Bjork and Cocteau Twins.
Currently working on their new CD, Aqualash is also gaining interest in film and television as Michael and Sarah have written music for short films and documentaries.
Sydney based Sarah Lorien and Michael Trifunovic have been developing their unique musical identity for a very formative ten years.
Together with their diverse musical education and background, their origins encompass styles from Classical and Jazz, to World and Contemporary. These elements, in addition to the use of soundscapes and space within their music, have created songs which demand attention not only for their unique style, but their ability to strike a very personal chord with their listeners.
Hello!!! It's been awhile - sorry there hasn't been in any Australian shows for many months but we've been busy in Europe with a bunch of touring and we're now recording our new album in Berlin (scheduled for release in March). But to make up for it, here's a big (and silly) Merry Christmas from us (and from some hippos too) :
Some bold new artistic direction? Nah, Just us being silly!!! We did this track for our label's "Black Snow - the completely different Xmas compilation". (and of course, visit our youtube channel for a high quality version)
Wishing you a very silly Silly Season and we'll see you back in Australia sometime in 2010!
your music is just beautiful ~ thanks for finding & befriending us. would be amazing to cross paths someday, & you never know. we're now mainly based in Boston, but i've always wanted to go to Australia. please take care & keep in touch ~ Singer Mali
OH...MY... GOD! We have identical music taste!!! Seriously there is not one person on your friends front page I don't love!!! Stan Getz to Frank Zappa :-) I was the support act to XTC in 1980 and thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. Hope you're keeping up better than me with the Ariel course :-) Just like School I'm doing it all Sunday night at midnight. You're music sticks out among the pack. Love it! All the best.
