   About Arbroath Suite Project
I am a 26 year old musician/composer from Angus in Scotland. This myspace page is entirely focussed on a specific project of mine entitled the "Arbroath Suite". The Arbroath Suite is a piece of music I have written which traces the developement of Scottish traditional music from 1320 to the present day. It is a musical journey which deals with some of the most significant figures and events in Scottish history such as, The Declaration of Arbroath, Mary Queen of Scots, Robert Burns, The Battle of Culloden, The Highland Clearances, the Great World Wars, and the present day. It shows how Scotland is a multi-cultural nation now, and has always been since its birth in 1320. The signing of the 1st ever Declaration of independence when Scotland became a nation took place at Arbroath Abbey on 6th April 1320. This declaration became the model for the American declaration of independence on July 4th 1776. It was such a momentous occasion in Scottish history, it seemed the perfect way to begin the musical journey through Scottish history. "The Arbroath Suite shows how Scottish music has mirrored the trials and tribulations of the nation throughout the ages. From the spirit of the gaels and the battle drone of the bagpipes, to the jigs of the lowlands and the poetry of Burns. From the sounds of the European accordion and the influx of the Irish and Asian influences on our culture, the music of Scotland is constantly evolving. It will have all the elements of Scotland’s people, told through the music and words of our heritage. From the Declaration in 1320, to the clearances and the migrant souls who cradled their heritage in the Americas, to the music of today which is being appreciated more than it has ever been."
