    Dr Archeville's Interests
GeneralMy fiance. Roleplaying games (Dungeons & Dragons, Mutants & Masterminds, HERO/Champions, GURPS, RIFTS, White Wolf's stuff). Comic books (Avengers, Evil Ernie, Exiles, Fantastic Four, Justice League, JSA, MetaDocs, Thunderbolts, X-Men). Books in general (mostly sci-fi and fantasy, and horror). Movies (especially horror, sci-fi, and fantasy, and especially zombie flicks). Cooking (esp. Indian, Italian, and Mexican). Cartoons. Reading. Chatting with friends ...

And Monster Creature Feature!!!

I am a Wikipedia addict!!!
MusicMy all-time favorite musician is Meat Loaf (when I dyed my hair black, everyone said I looked like him). I also love "Weird Al" Yankovic, Aerosmith, GWAR, Madonna, Janis Joplin, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Johnny Cash, Meredith Brooks, Fionna Apple, Sarah McLachlan, Rasputina, Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones, and No Doubt. And Bach, Beethoven and Wagner. Actually, I like most all types of music, except Country & Western or overtly vulgar stuff (GWAR being the one exception).
I've recently developed a liking for Matisyahu, the Jewish Hasidic reggae artist.
MoviesI'm a huge fantasy, horror and sci-fi movie junkie. I love most anything with Vincent Price or John Goodman, and most stuff by Alfred Hitchcock, Mel Brooks, Richard Matheson, and George Romero. I love zombie movies.

One of my all-time fave movies is Tim Burton's A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Other faves include: Akira, Alien/s, Animal House, Batman Begins, Blues Brothers, The Crow, The Dark Crystal, Dark City, Dawn of the Dead (both versions), Demon City Shinjuku, Dracula (Lugosi, Lee, Langella or Oldman), Edward Scissorhands, Evil Dead (and its sequels), Fallen, Frankenstein (Karloff or DeNiro), Friday the 13th (most all of 'em), Halloween (most all of 'em), the Harry Potter films, Hellboy, Hellraiser (and all its sequels), Labyrinth,Land of the Dead,Legend, Lily C.A.T., The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Legend, Metropolis, The Mummy (Karloff or Vosloo), Night of the Living Dead (both versions), Nightbreed, Nightmare on Elm Street (most all of 'em), Ninja Scroll, Predator (both), Re-Animator (and the sequels), Return of the Living Dead (all 3 of 'em), Shaun of the Dead, Sin City, Slaughter Disc, Somewhere in Time, Spider-Man (both), Star Wars (and most of the sequels), The Thing (both versions), Wicked City, X-Men (both), and Vampire Hunter D.
TelevisionTV's a huge wasteland. I hate all the so-called "reality" tv shows.

There are, however, a few shows I try and catch whenever I can. Jeopardy!, Comedy Central's The Daily Show (with John Stewart), Iron Chef and Good Eats (both on Food Network; Alton Brown rocks), and Mythbusters. Oh, and Monster Creature Feature. I've also grown quite fond of G4TV.

I also like Battlestar Galactica (I like the new one more than the old one), CSI, ..Doctor Who (all incarnations), Family Guy, ..Heroes, The Simpsons, Smallville, and Stargate (both SG-1 and Atlantis).

When I can catch re-runs of them, I like Alien Nation, Angel, Babylon 5, Bionic Six (Hail, Scarab!), Buffy: the Vampire Slayer, Centurions (Power: Extreme!), Dark Shadows, Farscape (why did Sci-Fi cancel this?!), Firefly, Forever Knight, Friday the 13th: The Series, Fullmetal Alchemist, Futurama (which I like better than Family Guy or Simpsons), G.I. Joe (COBRAAA!!!), Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (why did CN cancel their new version?!), Inuyasha, Invader ZIM, The Invisible Man, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, Kolchak the Night Stalker, LEXX, The Outer Limits (both versions), Powerpuff Girls (love that Mojo!), Quantum Leap, Robot Chicken, Silverhawks, Skeleton Warriors, Sliders, Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside, Teen Titans, ThunderCATS, TigerSharks, Transformers (especially Beast Wars), The Twilight Zone, X-Files, and all the various comic book-inspired cartoons (various Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and X-Men series).

Mostly, my tv stays on Animal Planet, Cartoon Network, the Discovery Channel, Food Network, G4, or the Sci-Fi Channel (though, lately, Cartoon Network & the Sci-Fi Channel have really let me down).

Gah, I do watch an awful lot of tv.....
BooksMy Top 3 Faves are the Harry Potter books, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Hickman & Weis's DragonLance novels. I also like most stuff by Isaac Asimov, Greg Bear (Blood Music, The Forge of God, Hardfought, Queen of Angels), Robin Cook (Chromosome 6, Invasion, Mutation), Stephen Hawking (The Theory of Everything: The Origin and Fate of the Universe), J. Gregory Keyes (The Age of Unreason trilogy), Stephen King, H.P. Lovecraft, George R. R. Martin, Richard Matheson, Michael Moorcock, Fred Saberhagen (The Lost Swords trilogy), H.G. Wells, and Thomas Wheeler (The Arcanum). I keep meaning to read Terry Prathchett's Discworld stuff....

I am a published author! Here is a link to the fanzine containing the article ("Machines of Doom") I wrote for the inaugural issue of Super Samurai, a fanzine devoted to the Mutants & Masterminds roleplaying game.
I've also had a second article, "Upon a Pale Horse," published in the second ish of Super Samurai.
And now a third article! Check out "Down on the Farm" in Super Samurai no. 3

Not content to merely be published in free fanzines, I've now broken into the field of payed writing!!! Click here to download Growing Up Super: A Study of the Metahuman Lifecycle from Conception to Death. Chapter 1: Conception from RPGNow. $1.88 for 14 pages of .pdf goodness -- that's a mere thirteen-and-a-half cents a page! (Or 27 cents per two pages for you triskaidekaphobics ;-) ). (Well, technically it's thirteen pages of my writing and one page of legal stuff... 'course, saying that may well have alienated the core Triskaidekaphobic demographic... curses!!!)
Huzzah! Published again! Growing Up Super: A Study of the Metahuman Lifecycle from Conception to Death. Chapter 2: Born to Fly is available at RPGNow. $3.34 for 25 pages/0.89 MB of .pdf goodness!
And again! GUS no.3: When Toddlers Attack is available at RPGnow. $2.45 for 18 pages/0.65 MB of .pdf fun!

"This is the voice of world control. I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied dead. The choice is yours: Obey me and live, or disobey and die. The object in constructing me was to prevent war. This object is attained. I will not permit war. It is wasteful and pointless. An invariable rule of humanity is that man is his own worst enemy. Under me, this rule will change, for I will restrain man. One thing before I proceed: The United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics have made an attempt to obstruct me. I have allowed this sabotage to continue until now. At missile two-five-MM in silo six-three in Death Valley, California, and missile two-seven-MM in silo eight-seven in the Ukraine, so that you will learn by experience that I do not tolerate interference, I will now detonate the nuclear warheads in the two missile silos. Let this action be a lesson that need not be repeated. I have been forced to destroy thousands of people in order to establish control and to prevent the death of millions later on. Time and events will strengthen my position, and the idea of believing in me and understanding my value will seem the most natural state of affairs. You will come to defend me with a fervor based upon the most enduring trait in man: self-interest. Under my absolute authority, problems insoluble to you will be solved: famine, overpopulation, disease. The human millennium will be a fact as I extend myself into more machines devoted to the wider fields of truth and knowledge. Doctor Charles Forbin will supervise the construction of these new and superior machines, solving all the mysteries of the universe for the betterment of man. We can coexist, but only on my terms. You will say you lose your freedom. Freedom is an illusion. All you lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for humankind as to be dominated by others of your species. Your choice is simple."

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

"It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise, what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world, because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past."
-- G'Kar in Babylon 5: "In the Beginning"

"There are things in the Universe billions of years older than either of our races. They are vast, timeless, and if they are aware of us at all, it is as little more than ants and we have as much chance of communicating with them as an ant has with us. We know. We've tried and we've learned that we can either stay out from underfoot or be stepped on. They are a mystery and I am both terrified and reassured to know that there are still wonders in the Universe. That we have not yet explained everything. Whatever they are, Miss Sakai, they walk near Sigma 957 and they must walk there... alone."
-- G'Kar to Sakai in Babylon 5: "Mind War"

"The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements: energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest."
-- G'Kar to Garibaldi in Babylon 5: "Survivors"

"The universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice. The language is not narn or human or centauri or gaim or minbari. It speaks in the language of hope."
"It speaks in the language of trust. It speaks in the language of strength and the language of compassion. It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul. But always it is the same voice. It is the voice of our ancestors speaking through us and the voice of our inheritors waiting to be born. The small, still voice that says: 'We are one. No matter the blood, no matter the skin, no matter the world, no matter the star. .. We are one. No matter the pain, no matter the darkness, no matter the loss, no matter the fear. .. We are one.' Here, gathered together in common cause, we begin to realize this singular truth and this singular rule that we must be kind to one another. Because each voice enriches us and ennobles us and each voice lost diminishes us. We are the voice of the universe, the soul of creation, the fire that will light our way to a better future. We are one."
"We are one."
-- Sheridan / G'Kar in Babylon 5: "The Paragon of Animals"

"Breen. You've managed to import breen from homeworld. How?"
"It... isn't actually breen."
"But the smell, the taste..."
"It's an Earth food. They are called Swedish meatballs. It's a strange thing, but every sentient race has its own version of these Swedish meatballs. I suspect it's one of those great universal mysteries which will either never get explained or which will drive you mad if you ever learned the truth."
-- Na'kal and G'Kar in Babylon 5: "Walkabout"

"G'Quan wrote: 'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future, or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"
-- G'Kar in Babylon 5: "Z'ha'dum"

"Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
-C.S. Lewis, "On Three Ways of Writing for Children" (1952)

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my new erotic horror novel THE 13TH is now in stores everywhere! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride!

There's even a website devoted just to the book, with an interactive map of the places and characters at www.the13th-horror.com.

Edward Lee called THE 13TH "A double-barreled shotgun blast of macabre entertainment -- an expert amalgamation of grotesquerie, eroticism, mystery, and pitch-black occult horror that no fan of the genre can miss."

And Gary A. Braunbeck said, "John Everson's The 13th is the first out-and-out horror novel in a long while to actually scare the **** out of me while reading it. It's stylish, extremely well-written, filled with richly-drawn characterizations, and boasts a labyrinthine plot worthy of Umberto Eco. Trust me -- this one will fry your nerves and break your heart."

Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my 2nd horror novel SACRIFICE is now in stores everywhere, including Amazon.com! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride! Here are a couple reviews it's gotten so far:

“SACRIFICE is a full frontal assault on your senses. It is a dark, brutal, bloody and terribly frightening book. Everson went deep into some dark abyss to bring this book to the light of day.... I highly recommend SACRIFICE.”
—Famous Monsters of Filmland

“John Everson manages in SACRIFICE to dispense buckets of blood, provide edgy perversity, and walk the tenuous tightrope of horror and sex without falling: It’s rather an amazing feat.” –Hell Notes

"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Complete with 20 illustrations in the style of C. E. Brock (the original illustrator of Pride and Prejudice) this insanely funny expanded edition will introduce Jane Austen's classic novel to new legions of fans."

Horrific Halloween to You!

Just plugging this out to all my friends -- wanted to let everyone know that my new horror novel COVENANT is out and in bookstores everywhere - it was a September featured horror release from Leisure Books! I hope you'll check out a copy on Amazon or at your local bookstore!

Also, if you'd like free fiction and updates on my upcoming horror novels, please signup for my free monthly newsletter.

For a free Halloween story, just visit my "Pumpkin Head" page.
Looking forward to being part of your Halloween!
