Aries9はアメリカ·テキサス州在住の日本出身アーティスト、Ari Koinumaが立ち上げたロック·プロジェクト。 ２００７年１０月にフル·アルバム『Darkness Reveals the Beauty of Truth』でデビュー。 １０曲入りのコンパクトなアルバムながら、バラエイティに富む楽曲の質が高く、最初から最後まで飽きることなく聴ける力作である。 作曲から全パートの演奏、さらには録音、ミックスまで全て一人でこなしたにも関わらず、独りよがりでない完成度の高い作品として仕上がっており、ロックの王道といってもおかしくない骨太でスピード感あふれるグルーヴ、ライブ感溢れる力強いギター、奥深い世界観を醸し出す歌詞とそれを独特なセンスで歌いきるヴォーカル、と聞き所満載の内容となっている。
Ari Koinuma プロフィール
東京生まれ。 １０歳の時よりピアノを始める。 １２歳まで東京、横浜で過ごすも、父親の転勤でブラジル、サンパウロへ。 日本人学校を経て高校からは英語ベースのインターナショナル·スクールへ移る。 １６歳の時にクラシカル·ギターを買ってもらったのをきっかけにロックにのめり込み、１８の時から作曲、作詞を始める。 大学はミネソタ州にあるクラシック音楽で有名なSt. Olaf Collegeへ。 ４年間クラシックの作曲の勉強をしながら、夜はロック·バンドでギターを弾くという生活が続く。 卒業後、在学中に会ったアメリカ人と結婚。 翌年より大きな音楽市場を求めてテキサス州オースティンへ移る。
オースティンでは当初ロックギタリストとしてライブ活動から始めるものの、その後採譜、音楽用コンピューターのセットアップなど活動分野を広げ、２０００年ころから映画作曲を手がけるようになる。 短編映画やドキュメンタリーを手がけた後、２００５年長編スリラー『For Sale by Owner」(原題)の音楽を手がける。 この映画は翌年からイギリス、オランダ、ブラジル、トルコ、ギリシャを始めとした世界各地の市場へ配給され、制作者の自費プロダクションというインディーでも小規模な作品としては快挙ともいえる成功をおさめることとなった。

MySpaceへ参加したきっかけとなったのは、aries9さんページの音楽でした。すぐれた音楽性とリズムとはぐれかたのaries9さんのバランス感覚は、じつにBlankey Jet City サウンド以来かも。テキサス州にすむ日本人であることを知って二度驚き、別ルートを経てその本人ともコンタクトできて三度びっくりです。音楽は説明よりも聴くほうが断然はやく、タイムリーな速度と疾走感こそ大切。
