About me:
The Reverend Jean-Bertrand Aristide (born 1953) was elected president of Haiti by a landslide in 1990 but then was deposed by a military coup in 1991. A radical populist, acclaimed by the masses and feared by Haiti's power elite, he remained in exile until 1994 when a U.S. military occupation of Haiti restored him to power. Elected again in 2000, he was overthrown once again in 2004, but this time with the help of elite funded death squads based out of the dominican republic and tens of millions of dollars in "democracy promotion" money spent by USAID, CIDA, and the EU.
Under Aristide hundreds of schools and roads were built. Medicine and literacy programs for the first time became a priority. Public busses and publis schools were invested in. After the coup dozens of these Dignite program busses were torched by the Group 184 backed death squads. Today the Latortue dictatorship has worked to undermine and wipe away the gains made by the Lavalas movement while it was in office.
Much similar struggles in South Africa, Venezuela, Bolivia, etc.... Lavalas has represented the voice of popular democracy and the poor in Haiti. The U.S. State Department and the Group 184 will stop at nothing to spread disinformation and destabilization. This myspace page is dedicated to the now over 10,000 Haitians who have died since the 2004 kidnapping of democracy in Haiti.
Here are 3 good films on Haiti and one on Jamaica:

Prezidan Jean-Bertrand Aristide's Friend Space (Top 7)
*4 years after US Marines seized control of Haiti's capital and installed a US-appointed coup regime…
Haiti is still under foreign military occupation, by a UN force that replaced the Marines in June 2004. It is an occupation marked by rapes and wanton killings of the poor. Haiti faces hunger…unemployment… lack of public services. The situation, imposed by IMF/World Bank policies, has steadily worsened since the coup and occupation. Haiti's jails are still filled with political prisoners. The poor majority still face political persecution, while the coup plotters & paramilitary death squads enjoy impunity.
My people tomorrow is the day, Get ready it’s going to be glorious. New York City is going to represent. Tomorrow we show the world that Haiti’s problem is our problem and we will not rest until:
*The US/UN Occupation is ended and the international community respect Haiti's sovereignty. *The political prisoners are free and we put an end to illegal arrests or prolonged detention without charges. *There are no more killings and sexual abuses of the poor by UN troops, police and paramilitaries under police control. *President Aristide is freed and able to return to Haiti and respect is given to the Haitian Constitution *There are no more disappearances and work for the rule of law is initiated for the safe return of kidnapped Haitian human rights advocate Lovinsky Pierre-Antoine. *An independent inquiry is launched into the February 29, 2004 coup and forced removal of President Aristide *Perpetrators of the coup and massacres of the poor are brought to justice. *Reparations for the victims of this racist war is given to all Haitian poor and oppressed
