General AEA's Core Values:

Quality Public Education for All
We believe that every child is entitled to a free, quality, public education. Rich or poor, black or white, gifted or disabled-all our children deserve the chance to grow, to learn, and to reach their potential.

Fairness, Equity, and Respect for All
We believe that every person is entitled to be treated fairly and with respect. Students and school employees should be honored for their differences in culture, history, language, religion, physical condition, ethnicity, and learning styles. These differences enrich our society.

Teaching as an Esteemed Profession
Because of the power of teaching and its value to the future, to our society and to our children, we work to enhance the esteem with which teaching is held by society.

Learning as a Community Commitment
Schools are part of communities. They reflect communities and can change them for the better. Communities and schools must join hands to ensure that each continue to learn, grow, and progress. NEAmember

About me:

With more than 34,000 members, the Arizona Education Association is the largest professional organization in Arizona. AEA was formed more than a century ago, in 1892, when a group of Arizona educators banded together to protest the use of 14-year-old textbooks. Since then AEA continues to take the lead in advocating for support of Arizona's public schools, improving the quality of public education through positive change, and improving the professional lives of teachers and school staff members.

AEA members are teachers, community college professors, counselors, speech pathologists, bus drivers, secretaries, retired educators and student teachers and they belong to more than 150 local affiliates across Arizona. For more information about AEA and how you can become a member visit www.arizonaea.org.

I am currently a teacher in Michigan. I will be moving to Arizona next summer, to Mesa specifically. Any words of advice, schools to look into, etc?

A young man dies and goes to Heaven, where he finds he is third in line at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter is taking a much-needed break, so an angel is admitting the newly arrived to Heaven.

The angel tells the three new arrivals that because so many drug dealers and other criminals have managed to sneak into Heaven that St. Peter must now be a little stricter with the screening process. Each person is required to state his former occupation and tell his or her yearly salary.

The first man in line says, “I was an actor, and I earned $1 million last year.”

The angel says, “Okay, you may enter.”

He turns to the woman in line and asks her about her life.

She states, “I earned $150,000 as an attorney.” The angel thinks for a moment and then lets her in, too.

He turns to the third one in line and asks, “What have you done with your life?”

The man replies, “I earned $28,000 last year . . .”

“Oh,” the angel interrupts. “What did you teach?”

Hello members of the AEA! Creating positive social change is a noble effort, especially when it is focused around the teaching community. Teachers are the most important kind of leader, as they operate on the front lines 24-7-365. We here at HotChalk want to thank the thankless, and let you know that you are not alone in the battle for better educational practices. We, too, are trying to change the world by making teachers' lives better, one leader at a time.

Keep going- GO FASTER! We're all in the together!

Hey there AEA!!! Thanks for being a friend to the SNEA at myspace. Although not many of the friends of SNESMS are members of the SNEA, I feel it's still important to atleast have a site, like yours, out there that offers information and advice to future and current educators -- as the saying goes "theres's power in knowledge!" So, thanks again for making the SNEA at myspace an ever larger network and presence on the the web and feel free to drop by anytime!!!

p.s.

I'm not sure what you mean about my 'avatar'.....I don't think I have one, but, if I do lemme know what it is and I'll tell you how I got it!!!

Nice Job! I'd be interested in learning how your recruitment efforts are going using MySpace! Are the "friends" all student members?
