Sounds Like
If Atticus Finch had forsaken his legal practice in pursuit of writing the perfect rock'n'roll song.
About:
Arkadelphia is a dirty, Deep Southern rock and roll band from Birmingham, Alabama. They do not care for gimmicks, making a joke of rock music, or using computers as instruments. They know where they come from. The tunes on their first and forthcoming LP build from melancholy ballads to a sanctified racket. The record was tracked at Old Capitol Recordings in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with Elliott McPherson (Dexateens) producing. Folks that play on the record include former and current members of the Dexateens, Paul "Wine" Jones, Through The Sparks and the Drive-By Truckers.
Resume:
Lee E. Bains, III: Dexateens, Duquette Johnston & the Rebel Kings
J.C. Colburn: Model Citzen, the Goodnight Nobodies
Press:
"[Arkadelphia] sounds like it rose up out of the red, Alabama clay. Arkadelphia has taken a little Memphis funk, Muscle Shoals soul and Birmingham rock’n’roll and made one of the finest records to ever come out of this state… Colburn seems at home laying down pulsing bass lines that keep rear ends shaking. Parmely pounds on his drums with all the consistency of a steam engine driving spikes into a railroad track. And Bains plays the guitar and sings with the conviction of a hellfire and brimstone preacher. Going to an Arkadelphia show is like going to a revival, except everyone is drunk." – Crimson & White (Tuscaloosa, Alabama)
"I haven’t been as giddy about a band within such a short time frame as I’ve become for these guys... I honestly couldn’t get over the fact that I was hearing Steve Earle singing for the Strokes, early Stones or possibly even (pray and ye shall receive) a Southern version of the Police." – BhamTerminal.com (Birmingham, Alabama)
"This is good, old fashioned stomp rock at its finest with songs short, sweet and passionate." - Lagniappe (Mobile, Alabama)
Mr. Lee Bains! It's Brett from Wormwood Inn. I see the Dexateens are opening for DBT tonight! DBT is my favorite band of all time. Save the Beatles. This'll be my 4th time seeing them live. And you get to open for them - jealousy consumes me! Take it easy and break a leg!
