ARMAND ST. MARTIN'S BIO:
ARMAND ST. MARTIN is a native New Orleanian whose sizzling New Orleans piano-style and Louisiana-oriented original songwriting captures the imagination of his listening audience with ease as well as zest. He performed over 250 local shows in 2008 in New Orleans, many of which were pro-bono to give back to his Post Katrina community. Oftentimes he plays 2 and 3 shows in one day at different venues. In 2009, he performed about 20+ local New Orleans shows in January, with more following. This musician says: "Have Piano Will Travel"!
As a piano staple at the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans with his popular original New Orleans musical stylings, St. Martin was steadily with the Ritz regularly since renovations were completed for the elegant reopening in December, 2006. While starting his 3rd year with the Ritz including his 2nd year as the entertainment every Sunday at their Ritz Sunday Brunch, St. Martin is currently on a musical sabbatical from the Ritz during this 2009 festival season, which have included the French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest, the Ponderosa Stomp, the Long Beach Taco Festival, the Long Beach Crawfish Festival, the Long Beach Lobster Festival, etc.
New Orleans Pianoman St. Martin became a "lead singer" in 1984, after having performed as a band member (oftentimes the leader of the band) and back-up singer since age 14 when he played guitar. He played with Satisfaction (a band that played Tipitina's in the earliest days), among other New Orleans bands. He studied Music Theory at Tulane and Loyola Universities and studied Music for Dance at Wolftrap Academy for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and completed the Master Class in Film-Scoring at UCLA on an ASCAP Scholarship.
St. Martin recorded in L.A. with Nashville songster Julie Didier. He also played synth in a touring band that backed up Nashville hit songwriter Micheal Smotherman for Epic Records. This tour covered major cities in the US, and included St. Martin being filmed in Smotherman's classic pre-MTV Showtime-video (now on YouTube) called, "Crazy In Love", directed by Bill Dear. Smotherman's Epic Records tour with St. Martin on the synthesizer also involved performing for Andy Warhol at The Bottom Line in NYC.
Armand St. Martin's own YOUTUBE videos to be enjoyed from cyberspace include his "Must Be The Mardi Gras" original song, a live performance at Rock n Bowl, a live performance at Lousiana Music Factory, and his lo-fi video filmed by St. Martin then re-edited by Patty Lee for YOUTUBE. This video is set to St. Martin's original recording, "Back In New Orleans" by Armand St. Martin and his Bayou Bohemians, about the making of his CD cover, "Alligator Ball". His pre-recorded songs, "Orleans Lullaby" and "St. Expedite" can be also found as the soundtrack on YOUTUBE for Chris Madden's DVD short, "Katrina Project".
A true Southern Gentleman, St. Martin has performed in New Orleans (either with his 8-piece band, The Bayou Bohemians, or solo on the Steinway) in venues ranging from the the Superdome before a Saint's game, to Mardi Gras World for a free birthday party for a fellow musician where 1200 people attended.
Throughout the years, St. Martin also has played New Orleans' renowned Tipitina's - both uptown and downtown. As a musician with Satisfaction, he was in the circle of party-going New Orleanian music-lovers in the 1970's who created the "The Alligator Ball" which ultimately spun into the scene becoming "Tipitina's" when Professor Longhair was living. St. Martin's CD, "Alligator Ball" has been in dedication to his friends who founded this music-appreciation group.

St. Martin encouraged/produced/recorded/mixed a local musician's Katrina one-song CD. The CD recording project was St. Martin and Lee's concept for it to be a one-song CD, and they released it with the recording artist at Jazz Fest, 07, as a special edition Enhanced One-Song CD (complete with slide show to the song by Lee on the CD. This project was funded to the music artist as a commissioned piece, funded by Margaret Hartley. Hartley had the brainchild idea to create this song, including giving the tune its title and theme (before it was ever written or conceived). She requested this theme be about the loss of the musician's home after Katrina. St. Martin recorded and mixed this classic over 75 times, as well as created the cover art that included photos taken by Patty Lee. St. Martin's masterful recording and production of this stark song, written and performed by another New Orleans artist, is featured as the opening signature song on a Daniel Wolff/Jonathan Demme documentary, "Right To Return Home", and on the soundtrack album of oscar-winning Demme's "Rachel Is Getting Married".
The St. Martin/Lee team also write Custom Crossword Puzzle columns for national publications, with column titles such as: Hollywords, GumboWords, PreserveWords, MixWords, to mention several.
