DRESSED FOR WAR SCENE MAGAZINE REVIEW
‘Dressed For War’
Armen Firman
(Independent)
Armen Firman is not a dude, but a five-piece outfit from Melbourne. These Victorians claim to have a wide variety of influences, but it’s a baleful take on heavy rock that dominates their second EP, ‘Dressed For War’. This is reasonably well written stuff and competently produced (and cover art is totally brilliant), but Armen Firman’s bombastic delivery is where things fall down: the band crunch through the manoeuvres while lead vocalist Tommy Whitty has a strained style akin to a past his prime Chris Cornell. Admittedly, there’s enough here to suggest the band could muster their forces into an effective full-length effort, so long as they drop the grind and stop taking themselves so seriously.

YOUR NAME IN MY SKIN REVIEWS
“This Melbourne band has quickly built a reputation by blowing off stage many of the acts they’re supporting. This debut EP (partly produced by Gotye) is striking stuff. While they serve up brooding rock (Fall For You) and stoner rock (Only I Know You), the money shot is the haunting, hypnotic Porch Dweller”. 3.5 stars, Herald Sun
“…the Melbourne five-piece blend ridiculously catchy rockers (‘In The Water’) with stirring, slow-paced balladry (‘Porch Dweller’)”. 9/10, Tsunami Magazine
“Moody, dynamic, and layered, the recording offers a sonically thrilling insight into the minds of these five young artists”. MP3.com.au
“Check this out before their name is not just on your skin, but on the tip of everyone’s tongue”. TheDwarf.com.au

"A mixture of conventionalism and innovation is what Armen Firman do best on Your Name in My Skin". ObscureSound.com
"The EP is moody and a little self-indulgent in moments but hey, sometimes that’s precisely what people want out of their music". Rave Magazine

PORCH DWELLER REVIEWS
"Further proof that Armen Firman might just be one of Melbourne's best unsung bands". Beat Magazine
"Whilst it reaches a glorious pinnacle at its conclusion, with James Saunders really hitting his straps vocally, it’s the gentle hum of the organ, the sparseness of the guitar, the overall sensation of restraint that reveals Armen Firman’s greatest strength". Wireless Bollinger.com
"The song is a sombre and thoughtful creeper... achingly beautiful". iTunes
"A fantastic new track from the young Melbourne band". The Dwarf.com.au
"It's a promising glimpse, with 'Porch Dweller' gaining instant attention without resorting to cheap loud noises to do so". Tsunami Magazine
