In the midst of a Musical Revolution, Armstrong Jr. set up camp on the front lines of of the underground music scene of Vancouver. Unlike his contemporaries, his weapon of choice... POP.
Armstrong Jr. takes his uniquely harmonic vocal arrangements with his highly electronic production style and finds a way to create -- from the digital -- a sound that could not be described as anything other than organic.
Having released his debut CD "Come Show Your Face" to rave reviews Armstrong Jr. is currently in the final stages of production on his sophomore album entitled "LALALALA" set for release in the summer of 2009.
Known for innovation in Vancouver’s gay nightclub scene, Armstrong Jr. has been performing across North America for the past 5 years.
Originally from Toronto, Ontario (Canada), Armstrong made his way to the west coast to learn more about himself. Having worked with friends in their home studios back in Toronto, Armstrong picked up music again as a hobby only to discover his natural ability to pluck out and manipulate insanely catch melodies.
Deciding to taking things to a new level, he completed his first album entitled “Come Show Your Face” August 2006 and immediately found himself booking major gigs across Canada that continued throughout the following year (see section “Live Performance”). Radio play was also picked up by multiple radio stations in the LGBT market on an international level reaching listeners as far as Sweden.
After a just over a year of an intense rehearsal and performance schedule, Armstrong focused his talents in the studio on a collaborative project with fellow Vancouver artist Jerome Mandrake. The two put together Jerome’s debut album entitled “Affirmation”.
Armstrong has currently completed work with Producer/Confidant James Sadoway on their latest project entitled “Sweet City”. Both extreme fans of electronic music, the newly formed duo have teamed up and discovered a new sound made possible by the coupling Sadoway’s intuitive production and Armstrong’s playful vocal styling.
When stepping out from behind the mixing board and taking to the stage, A Jr. Finds himself in his element in front of his audiences.
"I've grown to love being on stage. I find there's a certain 'zen' in the relationship between one's self and their audience." Says A Jr. in regards to his past performances at Toronto Pride Festivals. "I love watching the crowd for their reactions and tailoring each performance to their likes."
Having completed his work on his collaborative projects A Jr.'s focus on his solo work is stronger than ever. With the exposure he's gained from being an Xtra West cover story to opening up for Crystal Waters, Ajr. continues to gain attention from all the right people as he is now officially set to perform as an opening act for Deborah Cox with stage pal Jerome Mandrake.
Armstrong Jr. continues to keep his eyes firmly set on the future of what is proving to be a promising career as recording artist.
"I love to make music and I love to perform, so with every small accomplishment I always get something back. There's no wonder why I keep doing this. And with rewards around every corner, I wouldn't be surprised if I do this for the rest of my life."
Were Madonna to give birth to The Scissor Sisters' communal love child at your favourite Disco, you'd get Armstrong Jr. Organically electronic, his in your face vocals insult you and making you feel good about it. His concept: "Mainstream experimentalism"
Hope things are going great for you.. Things are going great for me so far... I moved close to the Canadian border from Pa so I could date my man in Ontario... We get to see each other about 2 times a week... Way better than 2 times a year as it was before... :)
