Arnone's Italian Restaurant's Blurbs |
About me:

A lot has changed since the 1950s, but one thing that has remained recognizable in the Erie landscape is the quality food at Arnone’s.
What began with a small deli started by proprietors Liborio and Rose Arnone has blossomed three generations later into a wholesale importing business that supplies many area clubs, restaurants and pizza shops; a retail bakery and deli, serving up everything from cannolis to pepperoni bread to prosciutto; and most recently, a fine Italian restaurant.
Situated in the heart of Erie's Little Italy, Arnone’s Italian Restaurant serves up well-established specialties their longtime customers expect, delicately balanced with current techniques to satisfy old and young palates alike.
The recipes at Arnone’s Italian Restaurant feature their trademark sauces, some using the best San Marzano tomatoes, and only the finest cheeses, top-quality meats and the freshest vegetables. Native Italians visiting from Italy compliment Nicola Arnone on his fresh dishes, which tap into his Southern Italian roots. Their oft-imitated breads and desserts and a full array of wines, as well as cocktails and beer, complete this inviting dining experience in a casual, nonsmoking atmosphere.
Arnone’s Italian Restaurant is conveniently situated across the street from the deli, on the corner of West 18th and Cherry streets.

Who I'd like to meet:
The Erie Daily Times writers, for publishing this great piece:
You haven’t lived here if you haven’t ...

... called home for Arnone's pepperoni loaves.

The orders go to Florida, Georgia, California and Arizona, where Erie natives go to start over. "They don't even care about the price," says Anthony Arnone, the deli's owner. "It's like a Smith's hot dog: They want it no matter what." Arnone's parents, Liborio and Rose, opened the business in 1956. His mother cut open 12-ounce loaves and stuffed pepperoni into the dough. Right away, the whole batch sold. Arnone's is Old World. There's chocolate biscotti and pitted Kalamata olives. There are wedding cakes, catering trays and pictures of the old owners above the register. There are four more Arnone children bustling behind the counter, staying late to bake bread.

564 W. 18th St. The loaves come stuffed with pepperoni or cheese. The pepperoni balls are smaller, rolled into 2-ounce sleeves. For hours and info: 814-453-5866.
