The band Arrah and the Ferns was first conceived by way of an open mic that new-found friends Arrah Fisher and Carl Stovner signed up for in December of 2005. They didn't have any songs written but thought they'd play covers or something really cool. However, lightning struck fingertips and songs were born from anxious little hearts of 20-year-olds. They knew this rad drummer, Dave Segedy, who also happened to be in high school at the time, and they asked him to practice one day. When the three joined forces for the first time, it was as though they got a glimpse of something that they'd search their whole lives for, but never actually find. In other words, it was EXACTLY like seeing a real live unicorn.
So that's how it began. Soon after the three signed to a label (Standard Recording), released their debut album ('Evan is a Vegan') in July 2006, and completed a successful first national tour. Then one day, Arrah turned 21 and instantly became a dark, indulgent woman. Naturally, some things changed within the dynamic of the music because of this. We all get older, life happens to each other, hearts break, and our desires evolve and often fade. The music must reflect this--yet, while maintaining the idea that all of this is fun; that we can behold the spirit of being hopeful despite our own demise. But being hopeful of what exactly is precisely the problem that reiterates in the music they make (and what of love?). Perhaps it was through this change that the three realized another man was needed. This man had red hair and never played bass in a band before. He would play bass in this band. His name was Joey Patrick and he completed Fern family when he joined the gang in July 2007.
Arrah and the Ferns played their last show on the third day of the month of may in 2008. They continue to make music seperately and together as...
Hey! Listen in to Arboles on KSUN this Sunday at 4pm! I'll be playing some new songs off the upcoming EP. Just go to ksunradio.com and click at the top of the page!
May I edit my last comment via posting another(?). It would be rather ideal if you played in Fargo, ND. I would be there, and you would most definitely hear me screaming in a plethora of tones indicating extreme amounts of excitement. I'm going to be honest with you, plethora is my favourite word. I'm hoping you like that word enough to consider my request of a show in Fargo. Silly train of thought.
hooray! you are reuniting! for an extended time, or just for the tour? and you don't have a show in chicago yet? i can try to look around for a place if you'd like.
anyway, i hope you're well and i hope to hang out when you come through.
did i ever tell you, that i love you guys? also, i feel, perhaps, we are leading parallel lives and would be interested in knowing more.... maybe we should play together in philly or nyc when you come this way?
so pumped for the reunion shows! Maybe you should consider playing in Bowling Green, Ohio or Cincinnati, or Norther Kentucky. Just so I don't have to drive all the way to Ann Arbor. I'm lazy. You're amazing, though!
