Arrowe Sound started way back in the 1970's. The station was then called Radio Catherine and was based at St Catherine's Hospital and the old Birkenhead General. The station has seen many changes since then, including a few re-locations. But its not just Arrowe Sound's home which has changed over the years, constatly modernising, Arrowe Sound is one of only 2 UK hospital radio stations broadcasting online, and is one the first to have it's own 'Myspace' page.
It is a proven medical fact that music helps the recovery process and eases the burden on a hospital stay, so, if you have a request or dedication for a patient, or are a former patient wishing to pass on messages of thanks to somebody you felt close to in hospital, then e-mail arrowesoundrequests@yahoo.co.uk, or simply send us a message over Myspace! Remember to include the song, artist, when you would like the request to be played, and most importantly, who it's for!
Arrowe Sound Online Arrowe Sound Hospital Radio broadcasts a sample of its shows online through 'Live 365', and is one of just two hospital radio stations in the country to be broadcasting online. To listen, visit Arrowe Sounds homepage at www.arrowesound.co.uk Programmes's are updated regulaly, and are broadcast on an eight hour loop with hour long shows from each presenter.
Presenter's
Keith Robershaw is Arrowe Sounds station manager, playing music from the 50's through to the modern day. Keith's friday evening show reviews whats on at the local theture's, and you can be sure to hear Keith interviewing a star! Recently he's spoken to Coronation Street's Roy Barraclough and Susie Blake, Julian Clery, Ken Dodd, and continue's to interview the UK's A-listers.
Jamie Preston is on air on Sunday mornings with the Sunday Sport special. Jamie is one of Arrowe Sounds younger presenters, but has already done work with BBC Radio Merseyside and Magic 1548. His Sunday Sport Special is a great mix of the latest sports news and the the best music this side of the weekend!
Geoff Morris hosts what truely is a 'Manic Monday' show, a fun and fast paced show playing largely 90's and Norties music, although he does play music from other decades, as well as requests for anybody who wants a dedication. You never know what you will get on a Monday night, as Geoff claims he "never plans a show. EVER!"
Geoff also host's Wicked Wednesday. The show is generally about celebrating new local musical talent, the nighthawk plays a huge selection of new artists he has found on Myspace and new bands on the Wirral and in the North West.
Geoff loves to be versatille, and tries to mix the music as much as he can, especially in the 6 pack, when he will often play six differant genres of music, claiming "it stops me being stale."
Mikey Taylor is another of Arrowe Sound's young guns, on air between 5 and 7:30 on a friday night. Mikey's always got something to say, so much show that he usually over-runs into Keith's show!
Nick Teale has been with us for almost a year now, and can be heard straight after Geoff on a Tuesday, and also on a Friday lunchtime. Look out also for a brand new show coming soon to Arrowe Sound, showcasing the best in local talent, featuring live performance's from some of the regions top bands.
