“Artist Creed”
Son of a pimp, Cherokee Indian, gypsy and traveling musician father. My Mother was one of 18 brothers and sisters (most Ministers) and a cement plantation worker for General Motors. I was born on the crossroad between two worlds and heard the voice of change, felt the power of life, and accepted the call to be a voice in the wilderness. I am the Hawk (the Messenger) the one to cry out for peace on earth for all humanity to speak truth, to speak life, to love.
My dream is to be a champion of the people. To speak of the intensities of mind today through songs titled “Who Will Save the Human Race” (about a longing to no longer feel oppressed), “Don’t Let This Lifetime Blow You Away” (about the state of which we were born into and the demand to have control of your own life, or “Power To the People” ( the evolution of our Revolution), ”I wouldn’t Want To Be You” with lyrics: You lie, cheat and steal just to get to the top of the hill, I don’t know why but I tell you I wouldn’t want to be you (a song of the greed of the corporate world and a capitalist society that becomes the downfall of it’s soul).
My truth is this: I will no longer wait for a people to believe. I will be their believer, and like Bob Dylan, “All I need is my voice and guitar to speak the truth.” That is the calling of ‘The Messenger’. To stand alone for all to rise.
Biography of Venus EVE
Our story begins in Flint, Michigan (a cement plantation called General Motors) on the edge of the Great Lakes, known best for its abandonment of believers and worshipers for a better life and its true hero Michael Moore (Goliath in the lions den) who faced the lion like a good boy with a camera and a wicked tongue for a sword. It’s here that ‘Venus Eve’ Kemp was reared on Martin Luther King and a diet of “You can change the world,” and launched into a world somewhere in the interim between Woody Guthrie’s “Pastures of Plenty” and Motown’s early gaze at Robert Johnson’s boot print at the crossroad of Detroit.
These are the facts: EVE is a Blues, Punk, Folk singer (distant lost cousin of Ani DiFranco) who writes songs that can appeal to old Folkies and simultaneously climb the college radio charts. He tours on the Acoustic, College, and Rock club circuits, shattering stereotypes and winning over unsuspecting fans everywhere he goes. But it is his humble beginnings and like Bob Dylan (his hero) all he needs is his left hand, guitar, and you. Did I mention EVE is born left handed and flips a right hand guitar upside down just as Jimmy Hendrix. Truly most new fans are amazed.
EVE started playing to foot tapping in the old New Jerusalem Baptist church while his father played the Blues in clubs around the South on the chitlin circuit. To his surprise his father appeared on his doorstep one day with a 45 recording called “How Can I Forget”. It was a Country song and thus the Folk/Blues was born in the soul of a little boy who had never heard Country music. If you mix Gospel, Blues, and Country you get Folk and that is the sound of EVE. But the rebellion of an evolution for the suppressed of all cultures is the soul of EVE, just as Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King, John Lennon and Bob Marley.
To finance his first album “Voice of the Great Uproar” he impressed his friends with an electric guitar screaming (because they wanted him to be Jimmy Hendrix) and a philosophy for the world that made him a Christ in their eyes. He assured them “these boots are just too big for a Blues/Folk singer”. He swore to always sing the truth and start a fire wherever he goes for the common man to stay warm.
With a voice that can rock the boat one minute and cradle a baby the next, EVE has a sound like no other. In performance he never ceases to stun and amaze his audience with the wit and wisdom of a wizard, humbleness of a sage and fire of a revolution in the soul of a common man. The raw energy of an atomic acoustic burns thought in your mind of Hendrix, but how can this be? He plays upside down? True yes! This is a wizard; this is an artist of our time. If Folk music has a future it is Venus EVE and may we all be blessed.

Hamilton Galleries is proud to introduce a series of new mixed media paintings by California artist

Eve is an artist for whom travel proved a great liberator. Born in Flint Michigan the artists rejection of conventional taste was founded in an almost physical revulsion for the stultifying world of the mid West. Eve is a primitive self-taught painter, Neo expressionist in style. His palette is bold primary color but his conflicting and confrontational use of black and white is what gives his paintings their emotional punch. The artist broad life experience and lyrical subconscious infuse his paintings with historical political and sensual content.
