Who I'd like to meet:
People who love contemporary art. People who hate contemporary art. People who are on the fence about contemporary art. People who want to learn about contemporary art. People who want to look at contemporary art. People who want to talk about contemporary art. People who want to listen to other people talk about contemporary art. People who believe in free expression, free admission...............................
CURRENT EXHIBITIONS:
Gaylen Hansen: Three Decades of Painting (June 13-August 16, 2008) Hansen, a Washington-based painter, incorporates Palouse landscape, animals, a fictional character known as "The Kernal" and fantastical images into his large scale figurative paintings. (seen below: Kernal Riding Grasshopper, 1999.)
.........................
Encaustic Invitational: This exhibition showcases six regional artists who work in encaustic, or wax painting; Leslie Van Stavern Millar, Suzanne Truman (shown below), Sara Mast, Joseph Goldberg, Wendy Franklund Miller, and Shawna Moore. The exhibition is on view from May 2 through July 19.
Joe Feddersen: Vital Signs. Vital Signs, the pulses and patterns of the body, are indicators of essential life functions. The powerful work of Joe Feddersen reveals, like vital signs themselves, the state of the human condition from the vantage point of a contemporary artist who has inherited an ancient aesthetic tradition. Arising from Plateau Indian iconographic interpretations of the human-environment relationship, Feddersen's prints, weavings, and glass sculptures explore the relationships between contemporary urban place markers and indigenous design. On view June 3-September 20 (seen here: Rugged Trail II, 2005, blown glass).........................
.......................................................Julia Becker: Root Orbit: where the spirit meets the bone. Julia is the fourth artist in a series of five installation exhibitions sponsored by the Andy Warhol Foundation. Her artwork plays in the vertical airspace in the museum entrance, a place where forces of gravity and natural light take precedence, a space that breathes into the other galleries, and is, in a sense, at the heart of the museum. On view June 6-August 22.......................
