About me:

Robert Martinez

I was born and raised in the San Luis Valley where I completed my high school education. I received my B.A. and M.A. degrees from Adams State College in Alamosa. I'm married, have three children and five grandchildren. I'm now retired after having taught elementary art and other areas of early childhood education for 35 years. I like to paint both contemporary and traditionalpieces. I am inspired by many artists, Malcolm Furlow, John Nieto, and Fritz Shrolder to name a few. I enjoy working with bold colors and a variety of subjects from Native American to modern.

Hey Bob,
Here is my latest offering, from me to you.
This one was months in the making, I lost count how many times it reinvented itself.
I hope you enjoy it.

My your days be filled with song and laughter,
or silence if a quiet moment is want you need.
-Duane

“The butterfly counts not months but moments and has time enough.
” -Rabindanath Tagore (Stray Birds)

Bob, I love the tranquility of Tagore’s poem. It offers me calmness, even when I am wrapped in the whirlwind of creation.

May inspiration greet you each day,
-Duane

Hi Bob,
I hope you have had plenty of time to paint. Drop something on my page if you get a chance.
May this weekend bring you peace, creativity, and happiness…

Through a Gentle Touch Love Flows
© 2008 By Duane Kirby Jensen, 15 x 20, Ink on Paper. (Private Collection)

Olá! Bob,
May we all find tenderness such as this moment evokes.
Above is my latest commission. I really loved how it turned out: The expressions, the hands, everything. It has left me totally exhausted and wired at the same time.

We Writers—We Painters—We Singers of Songs are travelers who make our own maps.
As usually, I have been deep into the inks and have five new paintings on my page. In my blog I have posted a number of poems from the 90’s and a few new ones.

I trust your creative fires have been burning brightly.

Hey Bob,
To be lost in paint, in words, in dance, in thought or any endeavor that can transport you—it’s a wonderful feeling.
It pleases me to share the result of my journey and I look forward to seeing or hearing about the outcome of your endeavors.

May we always have the ability to transform our dreams into reality.

I offer a warm hello and the type of words that only paintings may unlock.

for they shall soon find spring soil
egger to nourish them into tomorrow’s reality.

Bob,
A Happy Solstice to you.
These dark days are soon to end and light will slowly expand, reclaiming the land.
Even with all the turmoil in the world, it is still a good time to be alive.
I am looking forward to the New Year. Let us embrace all the tomorrows that lay before our doorstep. Together we can make the world a better place.
Cheers,
-Duane

The Rain (For Ellom)
By Duane Kirby Jensen

I picture you,
a window.
A tall slender window
with many panes of glass,
surrounded by
an earth-red painted frame.

And I,
I am the rain.
The rain
blown by the wind
upon your fragile surface.
I cling,
then slowly slide
from your lips
to your ankles
with a meander's urgency
to never see the end of the journey.
