ANIMATION WORK
Presented in the PICS section are a selection of pre-production work I produced for an independent animated pilot based on the characters from The Guttest Story Ever Told. These include background designs and some of the many character designs I produced for the pilot (and the two 30-minute scripts also completed).
This project is dead now, but I put a lot of work into it, so I'm going to keep posting bits and pieces onto this site from time to time so that they can finally get a viewing. When viewed alongside the comic strips and scripts they give a good impression of what the project would have been like.

WRITING
For those wondering where the "writer" part of my description comes into play, here's the run-down of some of the stuff you can see online. In the past I've contributed material to spoof sci-fi news site
.
I also submit the odd bit of
comedy writing and reviews to
under the name "glaikit".
I'm a contributing writer at North East listings site
, doing reviews of new movies, gigs and the odd book. It's a fantastic site and well worth checking out.

'(UNTITLED AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL COMIC)'
(TBC)
Autobiographical comics 2005-2008.
Here is a sample strip which should give a clue as to the style and tone of the collection. Gradually knocking out the odd strip for it in between other projects.
'PAPER TIGER: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE'
(£3.40 inc. P&P)
I have a two-page strip in this anthology from Paper Tiger Comix which is out now and can be purchased from their site.
'BANAL PIG PORTRAIT PRIZE'
(£3.50 + 50p P&P [UK only])
I've got a strip in this new anthology from Banal Pig Comics. It's very very good indeed - especially the parts by Jess Bradley, Gareth Brookes and (Banal Pig himself) Steve Tillotson.
Autobiographical comics 2002-2005. Full of tales of woe and heartbreak, not to mention rude words and offensive humour.
"a great little comic zine... It is labelled as autobiographical musings, which sounds about right. Some of the humour is offensive, but I would expect nothing less! There are comics about awkward social interactions where you don't remember people's names (this happens to me all the time!) and a part about "twelve reasons for still being a virgin" which rules because he actually includes having a gypsy curse as one of them. This is really entertaining and well-drawn. The people have a clip-art style charm to them" -- Last Hours
"painfully hilarious (or hilariously painful) semi-autobiographical comedy anthology... I'd thoroughly recommend hunting this comic down, it's about as sharp as small-press gets, and features some fantastically designed artwork." -- Gordon Johnston, Virginia Gallery
"observations and humor about love, sex, and relationships with a little self-doubt thrown in for good measure. Waugh's comix are well paced and strike a good balance between insight and humor." -- Midnight Fiction
"A collection of predominantly single page ‘slice of life’ strips that offer wry observations on the trials and tribulations of being a single male. Andrew Waugh’s basic style relies heavily on repetition, but is surprisingly emotive given this (self-imposed) constraint. Despite the occasional – and openly confessed – filler, there are plenty of enjoyable strips, including Juicy Fruit, The Fine Art Of Pulling and Women's Parts." -- Comics International
"what we have here is a record of the first few stumbles of heartbreak, as detailed by someone who doesn’t ever feel as though they will understand what love is. Well, everyone can empathise with that. While the whole tone of autobiography is one that can veer towards self pity (I think we’ve all seen comics like that), here it manages to escape this trap by cheerfully acknowledging this tendency. It’s a neat trick, and undercuts what could otherwise become very annoying. What is left is a winsome, funny little book that provides a few swift laughs and some moments of recognition. His art has grown stronger and is now more iconic than his earlier efforts. It has a crisp, clean quality to it that echoes the work of John Bagnell, or even fellow Scot John Miller. The back cover proclaims that this is Glaikit Comics, which is a great title for anything, and I hope to see it in use again soon." -- Douglas Noble, TRS2 Reviews
"I thought Melanchomic was a nice collection and shows great potential." -- Sean Duffield, Paper Tiger Comix
"inappropriate conversational foul-ups (that wouldn't get through a profanity filter), late-night fretting about how worthless your life is, trying to bluff a chance meeting with someone you don't recognise but who seems to remember you well - that's the sort of everyday stuff we're dealing with here. [He] does know how to time each panel, and laughs at himself with enjoyable good grace...the sort of thing that goes well to students who get value for money by showing the funny stuff to their friends who will each blink in horrified recognition." -- Page 45

"a showcase for Waugh's unique caricature visuals and no-holds barred humour." -- Gordon Johnston, Virginia Gallery

Na really, I hope you buy them! I'm from Boro, I need the money LMAO
i see you've become a lot less self conscious through your choice of photo... i'm still not brave enough to put real pix on the interweb...
We do indeed still meet up to talk comics at Travelling Man. The next one's on thursday 1st Nov (6:30 til about 9:00ish)some people will be discussing a book by adrian tomine, but i haven't read it so i'll be drawing comics in the corner...
you'll have to show me it next time i'm round your place. well done for getting it published - thats pretty exciting. have you got anything else impressive in the pipeline?
i agree, part time would have been so much better. it was tough, but only as tough as you make it for yourself. i'm glad i did it too, but i'm not sure i could recommend it to people. did you have alison?
Hello hello, thanks for the add and comment. Your work is excellent - love the illustrations and the comics are great stuff, esp the superheroes one. Cheers!
Hey Waugh, nice to get an add from a fellow BP anthology contributor. Is it true that the elves and dwarves were wiped out by a giant ateroid?? Fascinating. I like your stuff, thanx for the add!!!
Yeah, if you send us about 6 of them with an invoice type thing, we'll email you one of our Small Press contracts. Melanchomic has always done well so we'll keep it for a while. Aces! Can't wait to get some!
Sick of melanchomic?! Never! It's a work of genius, man! We'd love some more if you have any. And I eagerly await new goodness from yourself too! I'll drop Jack a line and let him know - he's the Small Press King(TM) of the Newcastle store.
Meeting Jeffrey Brown and Simon Pegg was a coup - the only person that could top those for me would be Timothy Dalton!! Would you hate me less if I saved you a signed Jeffrey Brown print? And we want more of your comics for the shop!
