About me:
Founded in 2003 by educators, Art Aids Art is a nonprofit organization serving women and children through programs in impoverished townships surrounding Cape Town, South Africa.
With our U.S. office based in Altadena, California, Art Aids Art’s American activities focus on educating the public about South African culture and the HIV/AIDS crisis through presentations in association with universities and faith communities, and at private home gatherings.
Each year, Art Aids Art leads Jungle Justice, an intergenerational group of students and professionals who travel to Cape Town to engage in literacy, performing arts, education, oral history and other volunteer projects.
In addition, Art Aids Art stimulates economic opportunity for South African artist collectives, purchasing artwork at Fair Trade prices and exhibiting it in the United States. Income from American art sales is reinvested into our projects in Cape Town.
We are currently building an innovative community center in Khayelitsha, a township outside of Cape Town. Called eKhaya eKasi (Home in the 'Hood), the center, will house a variety of educational programs and microbusinesses, including a bed & breakfast, beauty salon, snack shop & art boutique.
