Bio:

Originally a Mexico, Tijuana city based synth pop band called Artefacto (1986-1990) that released an album called "Synthesis" evolved into the Mexican post-industrial cult band from 1991 to 1998 which did 3 albums for indie mexican label Opcion Sonica with licenses and distribution to Europe via Zoth Ommog Germany, Submission Italy and Cri Du Chat for Brazil.

At present time the only original member (Roberto Mendoza) continues making electronic music under various alias (Panoptica, R. Mendoza, NPO) and is also responsible for founding the critically acclaimed Nortec Collective wich he left in 2008. Keep watching this space for future updates and developments.



Tierra electrica review from 1995:
One of the best "post-industrial" Mexican bands, this group has returned to create an excellent album, which drops quite a bit of their KMFDM-influence from their first album (wich Konietzko produced). This album generates a much heavier atmosphere, yet also comes across with a cleaner sound. Some of their influences show through in a few places, but the band is very capable at constructing their own identity. This band provides us with some great programming, as well as adding in some heavy guitar without smothering the electronic ingredients. One thing that particularly impressed me was the drum programming; it sounded so clean and crisp. Another thing that impressed me was the band's decision to use their native tongue on almost all the songs, which definitely increases the depth, fluidness, and aggressiveness in the mix. I also really liked the manipulated organ sounds on Sol Negro'; they're damn catchy besides the fact that they are not sounds you would easily associate with an "industrial" album. (Kevin Congdon)

Artefakto to trzyosobowy zespó pochodzcy z Meksyku. Ich ostatnia produkcja - "Interruptor" przynosi zmian w muzyce w porównaniu do dwóch poprzednich pyt - "Des-Construccion" i "Tierra Eléctrica". Grupa zacza bardziej koncentrowa si na strukturze utworów, dwikach, a mniej na ich przydatnoci tanecznej, e tak to okrel. Pyta zaczyna si od "Overcome", gdzie trance miesza si z electro, a wszystko to jest doprawione delikatn gitar, w sumie ciekawy kawaek. Nie jest to aden ciki industrial, raczej lekkie electro, mie zarówno dla kogo, kto lubi si dokadnie wsucha w dwiki jak i dla fanatyka parkietu. Czyli do posuchania i do potaczenia. Wszystko to kontynuuje "Sumisión". Znowu gdzie w tle jest gitara, a na plan pierwszy wysuwa si sztywny, surowy rytm i mocny wokal, tym razem w jzyku hiszpaskim. Utwór trzeci to "Coder", który jest "hitem" tej pyty. Szybszy, mocniejszy beat, ciszy rytm i bardziej agresywny wokal czyni ten kawaek bardzo dobrym, moe nie innowacyjnym, ale to wci dobre, szybkie electro. "Switcher" jest z kolei spokojniejszy, z typowo synth-popowymi sekwencjami i delikatnie przetworzonym wokalem. Troch to kojarzy si z dokonaniami geniuszy z Abscess. "Poder" te jest interesujcy, brzmienie jest potgowane poprzez narastajcy beat, co chwil towarzysz mu nowe, "kosmiczne" dwiki. Tym razem jako porównanie przychodzi mi na myl Evils Toy (ale to w wersji nowszej). Na kocu mamy znan z "Des-Construccion", "Narcolepsi", która tu zostaa zmiksowana przez Modula 3. To utworu brzmi niczym noise industrial, momentami sycha te break-beat, a kawaek ten róni si do zasadniczo od pozostaych. Jeli ca pyt miabym porówna do czego bardziej znanego, to wymienibym przede wszystkim Abscess i haujobb. Ogólnie pyta interesujca, dobrze zrealizowana i a dziwne, e zespó pochodzi a z Meksyku (a nie np. z Polski :)) ).-- mike [1997] postindustry.org»

Quelques années avant que les furieux de Hocico ne s'en viennent sonner rudement les oreilles d'une Europe en train de s'enfoncer dans la pop, le label Zoth Ommog avait déjà réussi à ramener des terres du Mexique un trio peut-être un brin moins en colère mais tout aussi torturé. Artefakto produit une musique éléctronique plutôt influencée par l'industriel et les formations culte du genre, The Klinik, Esplendor Geometrico, Clock DVA, Mentallo and the Fixer...rythmiques complexes et soignées, atmosphères froides à coup de petits bruits, quelques petites mélodiques tranchantes ('Omoplato'), une touche de tristesse...On oscille ainsi entre des tentations dark wave, avec un chant moins modifié (les très bons 'Omoplato', 'Akhenaton'), des titres rapides ('Des-construccion', 'Faktor reactor') et quelques morceaux plus orientés indus ('Akzion', 'To kill and die' qui, avec ses samples de guitare tordues, n'est pas sans évoquer NIN). Nos Mexicains ne semblent pas avoir la moindre difficulté à glisser d'un style à l'autre et à rendre l'ensemble cohérent. Rythmé, froid, grinçant mais surtout très efficace, tel est 'Des-construccion'.4,5/6 (gutsofdarkness.com).
