PUTRID PILE - "House Of Dementia" (Sevared Records)
What is it with beautiful acoustic opening tracks on super brutal CDs lately? CHAINED EXISTENCE from NorCal sent me their debut disc recently and I thought, OK, if that's what you want to do...but next comes the latest from the famously vicious PUTRID PILE. I gotta say, the first 55 seconds of "House Of Dementia" is really pretty. Christmas-ish, even, as this is December...But then track two, "Dead," hits you like a bad case of H1N1, and the pummeling, horrific onslaught of speed/death metal Shaun Lacanne-style doesn’t let up through such non-holiday themed ditties as "Post Coital Satisfaction" and "The Ingestion Of Humankind."
This guy does it all, too—all the vocals (and claims no vocal effects), guitars, bass, drum programs...everything you hear on the lucky 13 tracks of this barbaric sounding Sevared Records-released disc. His sheer audacity and talent is beyond impressive. Also impressive is Lacanne's reputation in the scene. Simply known as "Shaun from Putrid Pile" by his many fans, his thank you list goes on for two pages in the booklet--a true testament to the man's commitment to and influence on the scene. Bravo, Mr. Pile.
