Parallel Universes? Hmmm... Possibly. About The Style
When I create a portrait, I intentionally abstract some portion of the facial features. I do this to symbolize the uniqueness of the individual depicted, and also to heighten the viewer's interest. Most features on Selene are depicted in a normal fashion, except for her eyes. The large eyes are intended to express purity and innocence. The viewer can recognize and feel comfortable with the normal facial features, yet there is a sense of disturbance by the enlargement of the eyes. This is an invitation for the viewer to be drawn into the portrait.

Maàt - In Egyptian mythology, Ma'at was the goddess, or rather the concept of truth, justice and order. Maàt was depicted in art as a woman with wings and a curved ostrich feather on her head or sometimes just as a feather. These images are on some sarcophogi as a symbol of protection for the souls of the dead. Egyptians believed that without Maàt there would be only the primal chaos , ending the world. It was seen as the Pharaoh's necessity to apply just law.

Balance & Harmony - The Yin-Yang Symbol represents the ancient Chinese understanding of how things work. The outer circle represents everything, while the dark and light shapes within the circle represent the interaction of two energies, called yin (dark) and yang (light), which cause everything to happen. They are not completely dark or light, just as things in life are not completely black or white, and they cannot exist without one another. While yin would be dark, passive, downward, cold, contracting, and weak, yang would be bright, active, upward, hot, expanding, and strong. The shape of the yin and yang sections of the symbol actually gives you a sense of the continual movement of these two energies, yin to yang and yang to yin, causing everything to happen: just as things expand and contract, and temperature changes from hot to cold. I believe Balance and Harmony is a state of mind and if you choose to have the equilibrium of both, it is a choice you make in how you want to experience life.

Stuck In A Dream - I had a dream I was trying to enter into a mysterious and fascinating world where the rules of reality did not apply. Outside of this magnificent world, I stood. The residents of this secret world provided me with a head structure to rest my face upon. On this structure, eye slots gave me the opportunity to peek into their world. I could see an undisturbed and mystical delight that I did not have access to. It was a magical place where butterflies playfully welcomed the eyes of their spying guest. The butterfly sang a whimsical song of love, while perched above the delicate glass bubble. The sound caressed my ears and placed me in a peacefully hypnotic trance. The song introduced me to the center of their universe, where only peace, love and kindness exist. I was stuck in this dream for an eternity.

Saturn Sonja - My mind typically provides creative visions of a spiritual nature and curiosity of life itself - life on Earth... as well as day-dreams of what life could look like elsewhere. I personally think it would be ignorant to assume we are the only lucky beings that get to experience this gift called life. There are millions of galaxies out there, a universe of worlds that are beyond our reach. Surely, there must be others out there. So I think... if I were a "Saturn" girl, what would I look like? I have a fascination with eyes, you might have noticed that in some of my other work. If it were ever possible to live on another planet (Saturn in this case), I would look like "Saturn Sonja" - not too far off from looking like a normal human being.
