   About Arthur Alexander

Fifteen years ago, Arthur Alexander finally made the album that would give him the acclaim he was denied for decades, in spite of being a crucial influence on the two biggest rock groups of all time.

His comeback album, Lonely Just Like Me, was as warm and wounded as a fresh heartbreak, lovingly produced by Ben Vaughn and recorded down South with the musicians who backed Arthur’s hits in the ’60s and ’70s. Upon its release, Arthur was shown all the love an artist could hope for. Entertainment Tonight filmed a full segment. Rolling Stone declared the album “stunning” in a feature review. NPR’s "Fresh Air" broadcast a live-in-studio concert (included in the upcoming disc) and, in an unprecedented move, brought Arthur back two weeks later for a full sit-down interview.

But just as every Arthur Alexander song seemed to end in heartbreak, so did his return to the spotlight. Within days of the album’s release, Arthur passed away. In the wake of his death this wonderful album faded into little more than a bittersweet memory shared by everyone he touched.

Now HackTone Records will finally give this album the audience it deserves. Lonely Just Like Me:The Final Chapter tells the full story of Arthur Alexander’s triumphant re-emergence. Surrounding the original Elektra/Nonesuch album are never-before-heard demos made in a tiny Cleveland hotel room, Arthur’s entire live session for NPR’s “Fresh Air” and even a song from the 1991 Bottom Line concert which landed Arthur his new record deal. Produced with the full participation of everyone involved with the original Elektra/Nonesuch album, this is a loving tribute to a legend’s final triumph.

We're honored to be added...Arthur was one of the most underappreciated figures in modern musichistory...Arthur didn't "genre-ize";He knew,as Ellington said:" there only two types of music---Good and Bad...We try to do the good and stay away from the bad...";Well Arthur always did the GOOD...Thanks for helping keep his memory alive

Thanks so much for the add. I've been a huge fan since I was a young tot.

Arthur's version of Goffin & King's "Where Have You Been?" Is one of my all-time favorite tunes. His music has gotten me through some very tough times.

Best,

For my money, Arthur is the most criminally overlooked soul singer of our time. He and his music had depth that only a privileged few were lucky enough to discover. Fortunately, he's certainly not underappreciated and his music will live on as long as we do. Thanks, Arthur.

Thanks for the add! Arthur and I are from the same small town in Alabama. "You Better Move On" was the first hit to come out of the Muscle Shoals area, and still sounds great!

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this great tribute page. I can remember the first time I heard Arthur Alexander. "Go Home Girl" and the flip side "You're the Reason" and I have loved all his songs ever since, If you've never heard his version of "Detroit City" I urge you to search it out and Enjoy! His "Ultimate" cd is always in my player and I still have those 45's! The man was Amazing and left us a wonderful legacy in song! Rick

Honored to be among those paying tribute to this brilliant artist. Remember that scene in "Manhattan" where Woody Allen is listing the things that make life worth living? Arthur's music would be on my list.

I guess I discovered AA when I heard the Stones do "You Better Move On" ... liked that song so much we always did it in our 80s band (though by then we were inspired by Ry Cooder's cover of it). When you've got the Stones and Cooder covering you it proves you've got the goods. Saludos!
