Sounds Like
Something you should be listening to a little more often. The sound of one gland happening. A deaf lumberjack with a chainsaw cutting down a tree in a forest. The clock in a rolls royce. A samba band in the NYC Halloween parade. The musical equivalent of conglomerate rock. A musically integrated neighborhood. A klezmer band whose bus broke down at a Shriner's convention somewhere in the middle of Oklahoma. A crazed bagpiper streaking through Carnegie Hall during a concert of the Cleveland Symphony with a mad jazz quartet in hot pursuit. Singers before their voice lesson. Shakespeare sung in Esperanto. Somebody throw me a bone here, OK?
Arthur is an arranger and composer fluent on acoustic and electric bass. He also has a baritone voice, plays keyboards, and has played tuba. Sometimes he makes unusual noises with his computers and synthesizers to ward off evil spirits and nearby construction workers. This hasn't led to a defense department contract yet. Comfortable in a broad range of musical styles, Arthur was a member of the acclaimed Musical Viva Choir in NYC for 9 years and played with the Dharma Bums during their Woodstock 94 and Southwest Tour. Other notable bands have included The Collective Unconcious and The Weight. Many people in the Kundalini Yoga community know him from his work with Guru Singh and pre-dawn playing with Jeremy Toback. He worked as a copyist for Leontyne Price. He has collaborated on a number of musical theatrical works with members of the LA Academy for New Musical Theater. He's happy playing music it swings, sounds weird, and you can dance to it. He shares a birthday with actress Jodie Foster, although when she mentioned this to an LA Times reporter during an interview, he responded that unfortunately Bush was still alive and the interview was ended abruptly. (It was later determined that the reporter was actually a screenwriter trying to surreptitiously slip her a Taxi Driver sequel script entitled, "The Silence of Travis Bickel.") Arthur once unknowingly sat next to Elliot Carter at a premier of one of Carter's works and fell asleep during it. Arthur is an expert on the history of music from classic animated films. Rumor has it that he contributed to a work John Zorn wrote for accordion by sending Zorn an unpublished Bugs Bunny Carl Stallings sketch, but the last time the two crossed paths at Merkin Hall, John looked at Arthur with an expression of confusion, undoubtedly because he'd cut his hair. Arthur has an irrational fear of jellyfish.
