BLACK SHAKESPEARE is a man of many talents: singer-songwriter, toaster, producer, club promoter, and radio DJ, to the a few. He is a co-founder of the LA nightclub, Chocolate Bar, and has music in his genes. A cousin of bassist Robbie Shakespeare of Sly & Robbie, he is also related to the jazz musician Carl Shakespeare. Carl taught me about music, he says in an article in the New Angeles Monthly. I went to school for audio engineering and did my first recording studio assistant position with the Scientist.
Born in Jamaica, he moved with his family to New York City in the early 80s, where Shakespeare became involved with Hip Hop, toasting with host Jamalski at S.O.B.'s open mic venue.
