Since May 2008 Artificial Flight has proved an aeronautical force to be reckoned with. Following the summer release of their debut e.p. Modest War Factor the band has gone from strength to strength, catching the attention of Hotpress and various music journalists around the country. The quintet has also gained a number of high profile support slots including shows alongside Fighting With Wire, The Kinetiks, Dave Browne (Picturehouse) and local acts such as The Pictures and Sanzkrit.
While most bands gig first and record later, the lads and lady from Artificial Flight have gone for a successful paradoxical approach. The summer months of 2008 were spent perfecting live shows, playing venues such as McHughs, Bruxelles, The Spiritstore or The Brewery, and spreading their progressive alternative sounds farther afield. The band, for now, has turned its attention to writing new material. Lucikly, being holed up in a chilly garage over the sombre winter period has led to a fresh catalogue of material, which will be show-cased over the coming months.
This is “in-flight entertainment” at its best.
Artificial Flight make intelligent and compelling music and are well worth checking out.
- Hotpress, July 2008.
Artificial Flight are a band that just refuse to rush things. Their work envelopes the listener, draws them in and holds their attention, which is no mean feat.
– Athlone Voice, August 2008.
In a world of instantaneous, brash and sometimes fickle music, 'Modest War Factor' shows that sometimes music that takes time to fully appreciate can be worth the effort.
– Roscommon Champion, September 2008.
Modest War Factor is a highly accomplished first offering, showcasing the groups' talents both as a collective and as individuals
