Excerpt from Samuel J. Davis
(Interpretation of his purchase, entitled "GO", one of the initial works of The New Langley Experiment)
"David Langley is best known for his works with collage. He randomly pastes images and magazine/newspaper clippings (primarily on very small blocks) and allows them to create their own arbitrary narratives. When I first saw “GO”, the scale was much larger than Langley’s usual forte and perfect for a strong psychological impact...The piece impacted me the moment I laid eyes on it. It was as if I experienced a dark part of myself which could only be described as my own self-delusion or some twisted form of megalomania. I saw a deeper and denied part of my self reflected back on me like some disturbingly honest and intrusive mirror which exposed all of my secrets. It is part of me. It is me, the part of me I don’t want to talk about. It is all my selfish and deceitful lies and actions. It’s the part of me that I don’t want you to know about. It’s the part of me that I want to and feel the need to deny with relentless perseverance, but can’t.
This work acts as an example for me of what life would look like if I do not stay honest with myself and the people around me. GO will forever remind me that I need to place others first. It reminds me that I need to stay honest and open if I am ever to live a long or happy life in this world."
About me:
"Langley leaves us to form our own questions and find our own answers. His collaged and gel transferred images and motifs are pieces of a freeform puzzle that he assembles to create an impression of a future that we can only see through a glass darkly."

Excerpt from article written by Elizabeth Hise, ArtD Magazine (STL) 2006:
"Langley is a nomad, a man who journeys from experience to experience for one critical reason: his art...his itinerate existence has always been about the creation of something more tangible.
Officially labeled as collage, Langley's art is much like his life- a great many incongruous elements pulled together into a single entity. His work is eclectic but intriguing, disconcerting but strangely comforting. While strong and well-balanced, it contains a slight element of madness, one essential for finding and maintaining a fresh perspective in an often stale reality. Cluttered perhaps, but both his life and his work contain a symmetry captured by few."
