Who I'd like to meet: The 'Art Sign Project' is an event to provoke greater awareness and presence of ART. This project involves the production of 1000 signs, with the word “ART”, placed along Logan Blvd, Chicago, 60647. A sign itself is a statement of literal meaning. Throughout our everyday lives we encounter hundreds of signs, “10 items or less”, “stop”, “go”, “log off” and so on. These everyday signs have become simple directions, literal terms on the next instruction for the particular time period whether we are driving, walking or watching television. These signs have become commonplace, for most people even urban “tagging” by some artists has somehow blended in with the everyday sightings of living in the city. The word 'ART' like most words triggers an individual definition to the reader. “ART” is an interpretive word with meaning demonstrating as much individuality to the reader as “family” or “love”. This project reflects my understanding of art, the meaning to individuals producing their signs and the readers. The projects origins are found in a deep need to present more art in the public existence. The project itself is a barometer of the importance of art to the community. I am also documenting this project from start to finish in my blog. This project is meant to raise the awareness of art by creating a dialog within the community. With enough participation and media attention, the bounds of “community” are stretched to encompass a very large area. Signs will be displayed along Logan Blvd, Chicago on Sept 20th, 2008 for at least one week. Signs are free to the public after 5:00pm, Tuesday, September 23 to display, continuing art awareness.

Hi Gene, I hope things are well. I was knocking on doors before the election and saw quite a few houses with the "Art Signs". It was awesome to see them in people's yards. Chat with you soon, just wanted to say hello.
Just wondering.... Wolfbait is closed tomorrow and a friend of mine wants to drop off her sign tomorrow. Is there an alternate drop off to meet the deadline?
