The band, "Diplomatik Rock Opera", has first taken off as "Diplomatic Immunity”, back in the 90s. Having discovered sharing the name with a famous American band, it quickly dawned on them that they would better pick up a name reminiscing their old one yet with an original appeal.
By the time it was 2003, the band's guitar player and back vocalist Artun Erturk, had already scored a national hit (Ayrilamayiz Biz) with Turkish rock singer Pamela, wearing a producer's cap and penning down his skill as a songwriter. The end of 2004 marked the begining of a new and commercially productive era for both the band and Artun Erturk as Pamela got to number one and stayed there for succeeding weeks. The song "Istanbul", not only did become almost an anthem in Turkey, MTV picked the song for the program "World Chart Express" only to be there for four consecutive weeks as it's number one hit song. The band toured almost everywhere in Turkey with Pamela, playing in front of more than 300.000 people, acquiring legions of young fans, waiting for the band's very own endeavour's out on the charts. This commercially succesful tour and hits on radio and television, helped Artun Erturk and Diplomatik Rock Opera to realize their goal as a nationwide famous recording and live act. The band started recording in famous IMAJ studios in Istanbul and their first album, simply titled as “Artun Erturk and Diplomatik Rock Opera” is now out from Seyhan Music, one of the two leading major record labels in Turkey.
The album features both "Rock a la Grandiose" elements which harken back to band's roots in Queen, Genesis and the influence of songwriter Artun Erturk's personal fondness of new wave of 80s, and gothic rock, similar to those played on Richard Blade's historic radio programs in Los Angeles KROQ. Artun Erturk and Diplomatik Rock Opera, on the album, features famous Turkish guitar player Kurtulus (“Turkish Santana” he was called back in the days he was commercially at the peak of his career) and Pamela with whom the band has started to enjoy popularity. Another well known contributor to the album is Zeynep Casalini; yet another loved and respected singer in Turkey.
Artun Erturk and Diplomatik Rock Opera performs in their native Turkish, still a worldwide appeal the band has, only heralding the good news we will have come to hear of them.
