About me:

How we started
Asante Africa Foundation’s beginnings.
Erna Grasz and her husband visited Tanzania in 2005 and were saddened by lack of clean water, sanitation, and basic education. During their trip, they met Emmy Moshi, who works tirelessly to improve living conditions for children by building schoolhouses in impoverished villages. Emmy is the owner of Into Africa Ecotourism, which helps fund the building of the schools. When Erna returned from Africa, she researched ways to assist Emmy in her effort. Asante Africa Foundation was formed and officially incorporated in the state of California in August 2006. Asante Africa filed 501(c)3 legal and financial documentation in October 2006.
Our mission is to facilitate and strengthen the health and education of children and families in African countries. Approximately 90% of donations to Asante Africa Foundation support in-country programs and projects, jointly planned with local program managers.
Board members and other Foundation support is purely volunteer based. In addition, Asante Africa Foundation is not affiliated with any religious or political entity or institution. We rely solely on your generous donations to complete projects such as building schools, waterlines, sanitation facilitates and sponsoring children’s schooling.
Who we are and what we are about
Our Vision
Every child deserves an education, regardless of the latitude or longitude in which they are born. Every child deserves the opportunity to choose their future through education
Every child who has an education can make their own dreams become reality, help their families struggle less and help their communities to become more self sustaining through new ideas, knowledge and perseverance.
It is never too late for adults to begin learning.
Education leads to knowledge, and knowledge leads to improved health, informed decisions and stronger community-based, sustainable economies.
Our Mission
In the African communities where we partner, Asante Africa Foundation supports educational programs at all levels (children young adult and adult) that can help the local culture evolve for improved knowledge, health and overall wellness.
How we achieve our mission
We fund projects that:
build infrastructure (schools, kitchens, dormitories).
create a safer place to learn (water sources brought to school, porridge at noontime, and adequate sanitation toilets).
assist academically talented children get into schools that they might not otherwise have an opportunity reach.
help teachers be better teachers (supplies for the classroom, musical instruments, learning materials for the teachers).
We achieve our vision and mission through in-country collaboration with passionate trustworthy individuals who act as our in-country program managers. They live and breathe the dream and hope of creating a better life and stronger communities in the villages where they live and work. We believe strongly that it is not our place to provide western solutions to the others’ communities, and rely on local contacts to propose solutions that work within their communities and cultures.
Asante Africa Volunteers
Asante Africa Foundation is 100% volunteer based, relying on the heroic efforts of our volunteers in the US and in Africa. It is a privilege to work with a team of such talented and dedicated volunteers. We would like to say, “Asante sana” or thank you very much to the following volunteers for recent support, and to all others who continue to support our work:
Westminster Printing and Promotions, logo design and creative support.
Anton DeJong, web design and management.
Andrea Cook, fundraising and in-country support
