Asbestos Death ruled originally as a trio, with Al Cisneros, Chris Hakius and Tom Choi later expanding to a quartet with the introduction of Matt Pike on 2nd guitar. Keith Krate r.i.p. also played guitar for A.D. They recorded two 7" singles - Dejection for Profane Existence and the DIY-released Unclean. Choi left to join Noothgrush, It Is I and later Operator Generator. He is currently living in Las Vegas in a band with Sleep's friend Roy Page (whose voice introduces Sleep on their 7") they are called The Blackjetts. After Tom left Asbestos Death the remaining three recruited Justin Marler as a replacement and changed their name to Sleep.

Asbestosdeath was short-lived and only existed long enough to record 4 songs that were released on 2 separate 7’s. One: “Unclean” was released by the band, the other: “Dejection” was released by Profane Existence. These recordings are long out of print…buried by time and dust. On the specific request of the band Southern Lord has been chosen to unearth these recordings and make them available once again! 2007 will unveil a compact disc and vinyl properly documenting these sacred hymns! Be prepared for divine punishment!

Goddamn, this stuff is just crying out for a decent reissue. Somebody do it soon! I missed out on Asbestos Death as I figured they were boring crust like 90% of the bands on profane existence. Was I wrong or what?
