I’m incredibly out-going and am always up for an adventure. I thrive on challenges, both physical and intellectual ones, hence my love of marathon running (granted, I recently had knee surgery so my marathon days may be over) and my pursuit of my PhD.
My background is International Health (water-borne diseases and program evaluation), which has allowed me to live and work in numerous developing countries. I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in a small fishing village in Jamaica. My research led me to the Bolivian altiplano where I conducted epidemiological surveillance (or simply, asking about incidence rates of diarrhea). And I’ve had the luxury of traveling around the world for many years. More recently, I backpacked across Morocco. In short, travel is a huge part of my life and through my travels I have learned not to take anything or anyone for granted, especially those that I love…

You Are 72% Open Minded
You are a very open minded person, but you're also well grounded. Tolerant and flexible, you appreciate most lifestyles and viewpoints. But you also know where you stand firm, and you can draw that line. You're open to considering every possibility - but in the end, you stand true to yourself.
A true wordsmith - a master of words
Original, spontaneous, and a true inspiration
Highly energetic, up for any challenge
Entertaining and engaging, both to friends and strangers
I'm an avid reader - although most of the books I read these days pertain to my research. That said, a few of my all-time favorites include: John Steinbeck's East of Eden; Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead; Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment; and Laurie Garrett's The Coming Plague. In fact, Laurie Garrett's book changed the course of my life. I highly recommend this one to anyone with a curiosity about epidemiology and emerging infectious diseases.
Who I'd like to meet: Photography is one of my favorite pastimes. The following images represent a small sample of the people I've met on my journeys.
